im a veteran and i personally did not appreciate the sappy troop play at the end. it offended me actually as a veteran. once you serve in the military see how loved you feel when youre out there in the middle of no where fighting for something that you shouldn't be for reasons you shouldn't be.

after watching the debate you can clearly see that Mcain will be another four more years of Bush type policies. you can see he wasn't very interested in talking about economics of our country (or anything else for that matter), but when Iraq and the war was brought up he certainly became interested and started blabbing his mouth. this is exactly what got our economy and the downfall of the US into where we are right now with Bush. Bush ignored everything else going on in the US while his focus was on the war.
Obama's answers at least showed he was looking at running the country while taking into account how his policies would effect the nation as a whole which included the economy, international policies, national security, etc...., and not just focused and that bullshit war. Obama for President!!!!!!! |

They both HAVE to do that. In fact if one of them had a couple kids come up too, it would have been a potential swaying point for a lot of Catholics. |

They both did good, Obama won, pretty much without question. Just because McCain had the upper had in a couple of subjects doesn't mean much when he drops the ball on the economy, iraq and afgan.
What he should have said about Russia was, it isn't our problem. But he did say "if they meat the Nato requirements" which they can't, so they won't get backing of the U.S. |

The sad part is he doesn't need the support of real veterans like you guys. He just needs to convince middle America he "loves" you more than Obama. |

our troops are only good to this country when they are fighting... once they come back, they are forgotten.. i am sick and tired of these politicians going to safe zones in iraq or afghanistan with a ton of security and then act like they are some heroes for going there... fuck off.... you want to impress me, go into the war zone for 24 hours and see what the troops see day in and day out and then come back and tell me we need to stay in iraq for another 5 years... |

YOU just said it, he stumbled the name. He should not have brought that up if he coul not remember the name. He was talking about a dead soldier. People will remember that he forgot the name. That is important to a lot of people who have relatives that died in the war or have family members there. Plenty of people vote with their heart. On this forum there are very few adults to talk with. Most of you act like you are 10 when you are on here. |

Okay, I'm done. I was watching off recording as I got started late.
My overall feeling is that Obama did a better job. Something that struck me was that while I heard Obama agree with some points that McCain made, or acknowledge his efforts like with the bit about tortured prisoners. I may have missed it, but I heard nothing of the same from McCain. All I heard him saying was how Obama didn't understand this or that. Up until now, I've bee a life long Republican, but I have more respect for someone who can openly admit when an adversary has a point, or has done something right, than someone who can only point out what is 'wrong' about the other. |
McCain does not support Veterans, he has voted against several major vet issues. I am a member of the American Legion, my Dad has been the Commander, the state command, and many other office positions.
McCain and supporting Veterans is a total lie, a joke, and can be disproved over and over and over again. Just because you jump in a few key things that everyone supports, doesn't mean you actually back total support for them. I'm not saying Obama does, but saying McCain does is just a fucking lie. I'm a Vet that has fought for 10 years for my medical benefits that I am with out question in titled to. I live in Arizona, where is McCain for the Vets in his state? |

No big upset or shining star, but IMO Obama came out on top overall. A very narrow 'victory' if one can call it that, but McCain was supposed to win on this topic and and setting.
|
I think it was a slight victory for Obama. To me the both made good points and showed there is a clear difference between them on some issues with will help some people decide who they will vote for. I give it to Obama simply because he seemed more calm and collected and everyone expected McCain to do well because this was supposed to be his strong suit. Obama, by holding his own and doing well himself, stole the victory by a slight margin.
Still I don't think it will really matter much. In a few weeks when they debate on the economy that will be the one people will pay attention to and remember as election day comes up. The public has a short memory so the last thing they hear tends to be what they take to the polls wit them. In a few weeks we will now more about the bailout and how it affects us and we will hear what they plan to do. You can tell Obama is taking every chance he can to align McCain with Bush. If he can do that it will hurt McCain immensely. |
slight victory to obama in all honesty. i've been fucking with him all night, but i honestly think mccain didnt do as well. he let obama get to him more than he got to obama.
he attacked and people saw him as defensive. |

It was kind of sad to see how casual both the guys handled the economic questions. I mean we are in a real shithole right now and they acted like some tax cuts and a little regulation would fix it. No one gave a concise answer on the bailout, probably one of the biggest policy decisions we've made in half a decade.
|
I think Obama won, but he missed some opportunities when he could have and should have knocked McCain out.
