1 Week without Caffiene

In an attempt to get some regulation to my sleep schedule, I have officially went one week without The Elixr of the Gods, aka Diet Dr. Pepper.

I didn't get the headaches that people talk about, and that surprised me, seeing as how my average was 4-5 per day.

I was ungodly tired the first three days though, and felt achy...kind of like I had the flu without being sick.

The last 2 days I have felt pretty good though.

I have 2 emergency cans out in the mud room. I hope I can resist the lure for another week.

The espresso machine at the office never stops humming...I don't think this group could function after 1 day without caffeine, let alone a week! Keep it up...they say its 21 days to form a habit (who ever "they" are).

4 or 5 cans is a lot of soda, but I dont think there is that much caffeine in dr. pepper. i usually drink 2 or 3 large coffees per day, mixed with some kind of otc fat burner, few glasses of diet coke and maybe a redbull or two... wow, im pretty sure im killing myself

good luck tho, hope you get back to normal sleep

lol i haven't had soda in 11 years or so. well, the other night i had a sip of sprite. anyways, there are far healthy ways of obtaining caffeine like tea or some energy drinks that contain "sugar" or fruit juice.

now caffeine is a VERY powerful drug. withdrawal has been recently been recognized as a psychiatric condition. i think dr pepper contains 40mg of caffeine per can which is half a cup of coffee.

those of you who drink coffee need to understand that you are being stimulated by more than just caffiene. there are other chemicals in coffee that activate genes that control our endocrine system among others. just the odor of coffee contains these other chems. smelling coffee is stimulating by itself. the japanese researchers who "discovered" the coffee/gene relationship outside of caffeine suggested pumping coffee odor into factory air systems.

i've heard if you know people that drink lots of soda and energy drinks like 8-10 a day they are usually hiding a heroine habit or jones'n for some kind of drugs.

i havent had caffeine in years and i dont miss it, sounds corny but lots of water keeps you hydrated and that is what retains energy.

although, i haven't given up my cosmos or wine at night so i dont know what is worse

You can resist caffeine. It is hard as hell but you can do it. I had to cut off all caffeine due to anxiety. So I have not had any caffeine for over a year. I sure do miss coffee. That Starbucks Gingerbread latte was so good.

You should feel better without all the fake sweetener too. That stuff is really bad for you!

I can only handle decaf when it comes to coffee, and it wakes me up just fine. My sleep is too important to mess up with an upper like caffeine. It ruins me.

You do realize that many decaf coffee's actually have some caffeine in them?

How anyone likes coffee is beyond me.

Dr. Pepper is tasty, but for you ladies out there, all those 'diet' soft drinks will give you cellulite.

Pretty much if I'm not drinking alcohol (which I've been doing great at cutting down on), I'm only drinking water (and 7Up's H2OHs)

Kinda surprised at the reactions here! My wife went to Mexico for a month, and I've been trying to shape up some of my bad habits since she left. One of the first things was eliminating coke, I was drinking probably 4-6 cans a day (not diet either, that shit is horrid) but I really thought like wow.. That's a lot of sugar, and calories.. If my dog can live on water, why can't I?

But honestly I haven't even thought of the caffeine!! Serious.. I haven't noticed. Also I don't drink coffee ever, I hate even the smell of it.. So I've gone from lots of caffeine to none and honestly I didn't even think about it until I saw this thread.

The biggest problem is when people come over. They want something to drink, and look at me funny when I say to get a glass of water.. Makes them angry almost When I have people coming I usually go grab a 2L of coke from across the street for them.

I also grabbed a whackload of frozen juices that I never used to buy, but I see they have almost as many calories and sugar as a coke does!! Fawk. Coke has 160 calories per 355ml I believe, and the frozen juice had 90 calories per 250ml! Back to water...

I just don't wanna be a self-induced diabetic.. I love candies too. Is that really a concern for people who over-indulge on sugar?

Yes I do, that is why I said I can only handle decaf.

from one of those links:

Quote:
If someone drinks five to 10 cups of decaffeinated coffee, the dose of caffeine could easily reach the level present in a cup or two of caffeinated coffee,
Therefore, my 1-2 cups of decaf still do not equal a single cup of regular coffee.

What kind of decaf do you drink? I have tried several and I hate how they taste.

The fake sweetener stuff was something I wanted away from as well. I hate all forms of tea and coffee, so thankfully I don't have to battle that.
