Bought some Jack Daniels instead of my normal cheap shit.

Only two drinks in and feeling the effects already.

Evidently it's worth the price, which is more than double my regular stuff.

Wild Turkey American Honey blend went on shelves at the local bottle shop last week, very nice drink (is a little bit sweet) and definitely worth a try

Wawawaw..WHAT????

If you drink Wild Turkey you will be more fucked up than Jack D. ever dreamed of.

The reason people don't drink Wild turkey is not because it's not top whisksy but
because it's 101 proof! If you want to go out and drop on the floor after 2 drinks
then Wild Turkey might do it.

I buy 80 proof and 90 proof cheap shit.

There is just more too it than proof.

Proof is a good measurement device but it evidently don't tell the whole story.

Proof doesn't tell you how fast it will migrate to your brain!!!

Complete and utter crap. It goes to your brain at exactly the same speed unless you inject it or have some other 'difference' when consuming it. A 'better' whiskey will not get you drunk any quicker. Good grief - it doesn't take a high IQ to know that.

Most popular bars in the US that I've been too will not serve Wild Turkey because
too many kids wind up on the floor.

You have to go to small "real drinkers" bar to get served that.

No, it takes a young punk who has not drank for 25 years to know that different
booze will react different with different people.

That's why I can drink all night while watching young idiots fall flat on their face.

They think it's all the same. HAHAHA!

You'll find out after a few nights in jail that certain drinks are not going to work for you;
or you'll wind up in the gutter wondering why you became a drunk while your drinking
buddy who actually drank more didn't.

You'll learn.

Good luck idiot.

Could well be hence the external sources thing. Or could have taken some painkillers or...etc.

Whatever though the same alchohol content means you'll get legless just as quickly or slowly as you would have on 'cheaper' stuff - common knowledge these days surely?

Anyway, had my and as I don't like whiskey that much (gimme a good rum or 5* cognac any day) I'll leave you all to it although gotta say never had considered JD to be in any way good stuff. Now if I *must* drink whiskey a decent, aged, Scottish malt.....

As I stated above I'll leave you to it. Arguing with people unable to grasp something so simple can do nothing but bring me closer to your IQ. A long way to fall though to get there.

A few years back we stopped at the Jack distillery in Lynchburg, Tn. and did the tour. Picked myself up an 'anniversary' bottle of JD Gold Medal (aged 5 years).

It went down mighty nice.

Usually I prefer Jim Beam, tho. Its a little smoother and a few bucks cheaper for a 26er.

(oh, we toured the Beam plant in Happy Hollow, Kentucky on the same trip - they gave out free shots at the giftshop).

I've been drink whiskey longer than you've been alive you fucking idiot.

And just like every parent tries to warn the child, I will fail with you and you will
be a drunk for life.

Don't let your half assed science book written by people who don't drink tell you
about the effects of alcohol.

You're one of these noobs that thinks a person becomes an alcoholic by the amount
they drink and there are no other factors. Despite many medical studies showing
a genetic link.

That should be a clue to you.

This is incorrect. Ethanol is ethanol. It's more likely that your buddy ate a lot more, had a better chemistry that day (no residual painkillers, cold and flu medicine etc) wasn't fighting off infection, less tired and run down etc. Either that or other additives to the alcohol affected things, ie a higher sugar content or sugar type (maltose in beer) had an pre-disposed effect on ADHD, diabetes/any kind of sugar related condition or effects from sulfur other additives etc. The difference might be seen between say, rum and whiskey, or whiskey and beer.. but not generally between two types of the same distilling process.

I stopped reading that shit after one sentence.

You are stupid enough to think that Ethanol is the only ingredient in your whiskey?

"BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

You are an idiot.

Ever hear of a catalyst?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalyst

Now think about that.

They put all kinds of shit in the booze, but only the Ethenol is meassured by law.

No wonder people get suckered into being drug addicts and drunks.
Just tell the idiot, it's 80 proof just like the rest and sucker him in forever.

I've got some 80 proof home brew for you, never mind I drop Meth in it too, just
concentrate on 80 proof....you fucking fool!

You really shouldn't be showing your ignorance so obviously. Half the post was about additives and explaining that whiskey to whiskey, theres isn't much difference (you would have read that if you weren't too drunk to read past the first line), but then again, you think JD is a good whiskey *shrugs* can't help the helpless.

I used to drink strictly whisky, but I switched to cognac and haven't looked back.

Well, I'll see you in the gutter drunk on your ass and smelling of the shit you shat in your pants 3 days ago if you don't figure this out.

Good luck.

Aye, JD and Jim Beam are what 18 year olds drink the first time they get drunk in the local park after mixing it with coke. They're to whiskey what $3 sweet carbonated wine is to champagne and lambrusco is to red wine.

Yep, big difference there.

But don't try to tell anyone, it's all about the proof with them.

The government told them to look at the proof and they never looked back.

It's one of those things that in theory i'd agree with, but i'm too far into good single malts atm. Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Talisker..

Damn - I was keeping out of this thread now until you mentioned cognac but easy enough to ignore the OP...

I sort of discovered 'good' cognac in my mid-20's - a while back now. Still by far my favorite neat drink...in fact about the only thing I drink neat these days. Expensive though to get the really decent stuff but oh so worth the extra cash.

On the subject of good booze...

I swore I never really liked champagne until a few months back when I was given a $300 bottle and finally had an excuse to open it. Anyone else noticed the huge difference between a $50 bottle and one sort of $200+? I'm now a convert although can't justify spending that much on a single bottle of drink too often.

That said shouldn't be a surprise I suppose. Same holds true of cognac, whiskey etc etc

I'm in my mid 20s and only started drinking it recently... so kinda the same situation.

Any brand suggestions?

You're on pretty safe ground with any of the XO cognacs but I have two favorites - Courvoisier and Hennessy with Hennessy just preferred if I have the spare cash.

Problem with them is there's so few places that stock enough to try several by the glass - something you can manage with Malt Whiskey if you search hard enough. Probably tried no more than half a dozen XO's over the years but those 2 really hit the spot with me.

They've sort of ruined me for decentish brandy though. I used to like the odd glass of normal Remy Martin (although still technically a cognac) until I drunk those. Now I tend to mix Remy if I drink it

You can always count on at least one elitist, dismissive asshole who thinks his shit is better than everyone else's.

1904: First gold medal won by Jack Daniel’s Whiskey at the World’s Fair in St. Louis.
1905: First international gold medal won by Mr. Jack in Liege, Belgium.
1913: Lem Motlow entered Jack Daniel’s Whiskey and won this gold medal in Ghent, Belgium.
1914: Gold medal awarded during the Anglo-American Exposition in London, England.
1915: The Certificate of the Institute of Hygiene was presented to Jack Daniel’s in London, England.
1954: The Star of Excellence awarded Jack Daniel’s in Brussels, Belgium.
1981: Gold medal with palm leaves from Institut Pour Les Selections De La Qualite, Amsterdam.

Just realised how pretentious that all sounds it's true though. Anyone has any doubts do a blind taste test on 'em. Put a decent malt whiskey against a cheap malt or blend with a blindfold on. Same with cognac and champagne. There really is a huge difference between okish lower end brands and the really expensive stuff other than just price and snob value.

Appreciating truly good quality = elitist? Odd concept. See the thread's taken a turn for the worse again though so maybe time to re-bail.

Yeah, do us a favor and get the fuck out.

You're too ignorant to realize that people have different taste.

If this were a japanese thread talking about sashimi you'd come in hear talking about
how sashimi is shit compared to your fully cooked McDonalds fish fillet.

Why is everyone so angry?

Its all subjective.

you cannot inject booze to get high.

Anyone else noticed the huge difference between a $50 bottle and one sort of $200+? I'm now a convert although can't justify spending that much on a single bottle of drink too often.

That said shouldn't be a surprise I suppose. Same holds true of cognac, whiskey etc etc
just wait until you get a $300 blow job!

I can appreciate someone's appreciation for good quality.

The comment I reacted to earlier however wasn't an appreciation for the "truly good quality" - it was an elitist putdown of a product enjoyed by millions for generations (and not just 'teens gettin' drunk in a park').

Yep, that's a good one Frazier Crane.

Evidently your superior choice of alcohol has left you with the inability to present a thought-provoking reply.

I was pretty happy with it. If there was a thought provoking argument involved I might even reply in kind.
I'd feel special but it's pretty hard not to be elitist just by default when it comes to Jack Daniels. It's like throwing darts at the bell curve.

Sound reasoning. Furthermore, fusel alcohols along with methanol and a few other noxious nasties are mostly discarded / stripped because they are not desirable constituents.

Everything else is fairly innocuous in quantity and or nature. The obvious factors are rate of ingestion, absorbtion and so on. All quite unrelated to the liquor in question. I suppose blood glucose effects would possibly make you feel a little weird, but that's more of an extraneous issue.

I sincerely doubt liquor constituents would catalyse ethanol metabolism by incident. There are multiple enzymes performing that function; nonspecific interference would probably make you quite ill. That said, the aforementioned enzymes, respective metabolic function, and neural paths could very well be affected by medication or genetic disposition. Such effects would not differ by liquor brand name however.

Speaking from the experience of somone that was drunk from 1982 to 1996 - pretty much constantly averaging 12-24 drinks a day, I feel I need to say.

Anyone that believes 2 wild turkey drinks will put them (or anyone) on the floor, is not very good at drinking, and probably should not giva any advice about what is / is not good booze.
