What are the best UK tv shows?

So I downloaded all seasons of Peep Show and loved it. Really refreshing to see something not made in the US.

Was wondering if there were any more gems like Peep Show is all, Mitchell and Webb apparently run shit over there ;)

I should say i'm already addicted to Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare (uk version only us version is awful with the voice over shit).

Much obliged.

If you can find the mini-series State of Play you should watch it.

If you like UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, you should really like the UK Apprentice.

Also try the Restaurant with Raymond Blanc.

If you like cooking shows more than business go for Masterchef. Masterchef: the professionals just finished and was a great season imo.

Have you not watched THE MIGHTY BOOSH yet ???
And if not why not ?

Also other stuff to watch would be Red Dwarf if you've not seen it before classic british comedy.
In the same random and side splitting funnyness that boosh has is the IT Crowd that is great too.

Spooks is great. I don't really like very many UK tv shows. If you're looking for a good thriller type series try buying Wire In The Blood on play.com

Another Restaurant fan...last season was pretty good. I haven't made my mind up on this one yet. I was hoping that the Brown and Green girls would do something more than they have afterwards. They were on a couple cooking shows right after the show and always made the kind of healthy stuff I could make at home.

Masterchef Professional was much better than I thought it would be. I feared it would be more like those ones they have the former royal correspondent doing that are a bit too snobby for me.

I knew somebody would say Boosh...are they due a new series? Their previous series is being rerun and that usually means something new is coming.

Red Dwarf is my fave comedy of all time. We also really enjoy IT Crowd too but you have to get into it for a bit. Last season it was showing its Father Ted roots a bit more which I enjoyed but my husband thought it has lost a bit of the geekeness. Of course, Noel from Boosh is in IT Crowd too.

Dylan Moran is a fucking god amongst men, don't you dare even think about not worshipping him.. Bailey is a tool.

Life on Mars, Spooks, Mighty Boosh are all awesome.. I'd actually say Life on Mars is probably in my top 3 favourite shows of the last couple of years. Black Books is fairly old now but worth checking out, It Crowd is good. If you want to go back a fair way, check out Chris Morris's "Jam" (also as mentioned Red Dwarf). Brilliant.

Ps. Neighbours is Australian, Flight of the Conchords (although fucking awesome) is from New Zealand.

Peep Show is such a good show but yeah I agree their sketch show they did just didn't grab me like Peep Show did.

The original Ricky Gervais Office is brilliant (although I really love the US version as well).

Alan Partridge is one of the best characters in sitcom history. The 1st series is a spoof chat show, in the 2nd series his chat show has been cancelled, he lives in a travel tavern (motel) trying to get his career back on track. Smells my cheese you mother! Brilliant!

No one else seems to like it but me but 15 Storeys High is a very quiet, subtle, dark sitcom. It's a slow burner, I loved it but many won't.

Oh I feel like such a fool for forgetting Alan Partridge !
The office is a classic first series of extras is very good too.
As for 15 stories high I fucking loved it Sean Lock is great in it and with one of the episodes featuring a dead swan and sean in the stocks it dont get much better.

Another not very well known comedy is Garth Merenghis dark place which is very funny just a bit weird.

Oh and Sarah Black Books is fucking hilarious you just need to get into it also dont think anyone has mentioned Spaced yet which is Simon Peggs greatest work better than his films.

Finally Mighty Boosh is touring at the moment so I think thats the reason for the replay of the last series that and its fucking funny.

Derren Brown - many different series all about mind magic fascinating to watch
Here's a little clip of him in action
http://www.metacafe.com/fplayer/5757...gypsy_scam.swf

I loved Green Wing, Ideal and Little Britain when they were on TV, all of those are comedy series, Little Britain is more of a sketch show.

Can't say I watch much TV these days...if I do it tends to be Most Haunted cause that series is pure laughs - though I'm not sure it's supposed to be! It's a 'hunt the ghosts' kind of show, I think the team behind that have gone out to the USA now for series' over there I'm look forward to it.

I can't stand Most Haunted of any of those kind of shows. For a channel called Living TV there is an awful lot about dead people on it.

Thanks for the replies folks.. Here is what we get in the US on BBC.

1. Top Gear
2. Shameless
3. Mitchell & Web Look
4. Gavin & Stacey
5. Most Haunted

I had to download Peep Show (so fucking worth it) which smashed that Mitchell and Webb Look.. (I knew their good humor from the movie Magicians).

Peep Show instantly went to my top 5 tv series ever US or UK, so if I struck gold on that.. was wondering if their was anything similar (well shot, dark humor, mammoth brains).

and Yes, Flight of the Conchords is in my top 5 as well.

Just looking for something I can bank on being good.. Maybe we should do a consensus.

Thx.

I forgot "Absolute Power".. very good.
Also speaking of Nick Frost, Hyperdrive isn't too bad from the one episode i've seen. Had one guy talking about how his dad was dying so he wrote a program of himself to bring him up after he was gone.. was awesome, there's a snippet on youtube but it doesn't have the funny bits in it so no point embedding.

Yes it is.. but some of those shows we can watch on BBC America.

Regardless I have downloaded The Mighty Boosh, only got to watch the beginning of an episode.. some funny parts.. some silly.

I will give it an honest shot though, I still don't think anything will beat the dynamic of Peep Show.

Yeah, very good post people.
