There should be some amazing images like these from that storm as well.

Would love to see them.

Tell me than that 170 mph winds did that.

Really I think the problem conceptually is that wind pressure is related to the velocity of the wind squared. A 160 mph wind hits an object with 8x the pressure that a 40 mph wind does. Not just 4x.

Andrew was an awesome storm. No doubt about it. Just not the storm -meteorologically - that Camille was. Central pressures - one measure of intensity - at landfall.

Camille 909 mbar. Sustained winds approximately 190 mph sustained
Andrew 922 mbar. Sustained winds approximately 165 mph sustained

You can find plenty of amazing pictures of Camille damage on the web.

I agree. Maybe I'm heartless, but there was plenty of warning on this one. I believe the words "certain death" should have rung a bell to a few of these idiots.

I know its crazy but my family has inhabited the areas osfGrand Isle, and Jean Lafitte, Barataria, LA for over 200 years.

My family came to Acadian in 1624. You couldnt pry some of these old fuckers from these homes now if you wanted to.

we lived here before it was the United States LOL

all cajun french, and we even went through our own Holocaust down here, forced to stop speaking french and thousands killed... forced to live in swamps with Native Americans etc... these are the ties that keep our people here.

"In the Great Expulsion of 1755, around 11000 Acadians were deported from Acadia under the direction of British colonial officers and New England legislators and militia; many later settled in Louisiana, where they became known as Cajuns. "

they called it the Great Expulsion

theres my history lesson for today

Not only did someone post that NOAA has on record winds from a storm above 200mph, but imagine the speed that this took.
