The thing that galls me is that 'elitist' has become a bad word.

HELLO!?! I want an elitist to be my president, I want a guy who's smarter than me and went to better colleges than I did to lead our nation.

I don't want my redneck next door neighbor because he and I drink the same brand of beer.

Only in America. Very well said.
We are being laughed at by Everyone on this planet. This whole election has turned out to be a horrible reality show.

Hillary was the only credible one running, and now she is fighting to save our country on the sidelines. :Oh crap

These things really do matter to most Americans, even though they don't matter to most people on this board, or around the world.

I'm not looking to argue with you about this, I"m just answering your subject line that asked for help understanding the situation.

.

Uhmm you are mis informed of the facts though on every one of those points.
None of them are true.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight...

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive... and maybe even the President of the United States!!

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

I'm just writing down some notes on all the candidates. I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any.

Don't forget she is a former beauty queen !:thumbsup

No, he went to a church that preached inequality between the classes in America.

Wright never said anything that Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson haven't been quoted as saying in some form. Even his comments about 9/11 have been echoed by Falwell and Robertson.

What I love is hearing my parents who are both are from Pennsylvania and live in the Philly burbs, both highly educated (my mother has a PHD) and both sent their kids to good schools talk about 'East coast elitism' like it is the worst thing ever. I can't even talk to my dad about the policy stances on which I disagree with Palin without wanting to smack my head on the table because it all comes back to 'but she has more executive experience than the democrat ticket combined'. As if they forget who is heading the ticket for the republicans and what current job title he holds.

Just for clarification... Obama's tax plan doesn't include a boost for welfare... it includes stuff like tax credits for working... tax credits for going to college... etc...

Here is an interesting image showing his state senate accomlishments:
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/...ma.GRAPHIC.gif

BTW: Since he has been in the US Senate he has sponsored 154 bills... yes some are fluff bills but the majority are very substantive. Compare that to 38 bills sponsored by McCain... and Obama has not voted against his own bills.

Obama's Legislative Accomplishments in the US Senate:
** First legislation, the HOPE Act, which increased Pell Grants to $5100, and later joined Senator Kennedy on the Higher Education legislation that passed July 20, by a vote of 78-18. That legislation also included funding for Predominantly Black Colleges to assist with counseling, tutoring and other needs of low income students. It also creates the Teaching Residency Act which will create a school-based teacher preparation program in high needs schools to provide each teacher with a mentor, content instruction, classroom management skills, a master’s degree and state certification, and a 2 year follow-up program.

**The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006
is an act that requires the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds beginning in fiscal year (FY) 2007 on a website maintained by the Office of Management and Budget.

**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act
Authored by U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL), the Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.
Signed into Law on January 11, 2007.

** S116 - Summer Learning demonstration project to provide summer learning grants and encourage new teaching methods.

and this one, moved out of committee just a few days ago:
Obama's Global Poverty Act of 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) today hailed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's passage of the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs. This legislation was introduced in December. Smith and Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) sponsored the House version of the bill (H.R. 1302), which passed the House last September.

It would have to be someone that believed in God.

A person who thinks that woman place should be to man as man is to God.

A fundamentalist.

A person who believes this life is not the most important.

A person against abortion and contraception

Sarah Palin
