Movie Gallery Submitters - Questions PLZ

I'm wanting to try a new marketing technique on some of my sites...it would require me hosting my own movies. It would consist of 12 clips - 300kb each. Out of 10k visitors, I figure the pages will recieve anywhere from 2,000-6,000 hits a day. What kind of bandwidth can I expect to burn here?

Not a lot of places will accept 300kb movies (many have a 500kb movie limit). I'd do 8 x 500kb or 6 x 800kb.

Bandwidth For every 10k gallery hits a day expect about 2Mbits. (~600GB).

Its not for TGP submission. I would NEVER give those freeloaders movies on my bandwidth.

600gb on 10k movie gallery traffic? how the fuck do these people make their bills?

at 1.00 per gb, you'd have to convert 1 out of every 600 gallery VISITS just to make back what you're spending.

I'm still having a hard time figuring out how this is profitable if you can burn 600gb per day...unless you pay like .43 per gb or something

Morph3us, that's not true at all - more than enough sites (about 200 in my db) allow minimum file at 300kb or don't even set a min. file size. Movieposts which request 1mb+ as min. file size don't pay for the bandwidth themselves, they rather ripp it off from those free ISPs and make sure that those cut jobs.

If most of the movieposts won't rip off aol and all the other free isps, they would finally REALIZE that posting 1mb+ movies is a financial game with the fire and simply NUTS! And it doesn't make a site bigger at all...

Look at videpost-post.com, somewhere in the top ten on sextracker, and he's just fine with almost any file size. Bigger movie files =! (is not) bigger sites.

Also, file size doesn't say a tiny bit about movie quality. You can have a 1mb movie which still sucks in audio/visual quality, but you can also have 10sec clips at 300-400kb with excellent quality.

It's all about original movie encoding quality not about file size alone.

RMG, you might want to check out : http://www.numion.com/Calculators/
where you can calculate anything you want in puncto bandwidth.

Also, i invite everyone to post embeded movies on my site on free-porn-review.com or nice looking galleries anyways.

Greetings, Michael

PS : Even at 20cents or less per gig, it's a risky game.

uhm no, for every 10k per day for the duration of 30 days, you'd burn 2Mbits/month.

10k to gallery would burn like 20GB

Maybe it was at a time where the bandwidth prices were set at 5-6$/gig or more...

just pokin' fun

I wish you luck, you should definetely get someone to write a script to protect the movies from hotlinkers...it can be done with cookies, but then you'd be denying surfers who don't have them enabled.
Or you could get a script that randomly renames the files every 30 minutes, not sure if anyone offers this but it probably wouldn't be too hard for someone to code.

Good luck and don't believe the hype about cogent...

I use some kickass host which 100% protects my movies - htaccess + cookie support alone doesn't help.
They've got some very special and bulletproof module installed against movies hotlinking.

Hit me up on icq 146920758 for more details.

Greetings, Michael

Some people will tell you that you'll need premier, and if you want to do fancy shit with text and inserting graphic frames and the like, then premier is the way to go.

I, however, don't have any use for such a program.

Virtualdub(which is free) is the best program, hands down, to cut mpegs and avis. If want to do mpeg clips, You'll need to re-encode them afterwards with a different program called TMpegEnc, which is also free, and very very customizable (is that a word?)
