Quality over quantity would be a better indicator...

I really don't feel like looking through 700 bills to see which one is trying to enact better laws, LOL.

Often times I wish every politician in Washington would go the fuck home and STOP doing shit. How many more damn laws do we need? People in this country are already pretty much stripped of most of the freedoms we started out with.

I can remember the "good old days" when the cops pulled you over and were NOT allowed to go through your wife's purse and look at all of her private stuff. Or search your car. These days? They not only can search you, but they can search INSIDE of you via breathalyzer tests. I know that there are "good reasons" for that. But as my grandmother used to say: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"

I agree Arnold said that gov should be a part time job. Since its fulltime they make up shit to do. That's why Wash dc is where it is, it was a swamp so you couldn't be there in the summer time.

Robbie, They want to regulate everything we do inorder to protect ourselves. Or atleast that is what tell us.

When you look at all the crap laws submitted, I'm glad so many never make it.

You're right Erasmo. They are controlling us. And Control=Power.

I have no idea how people ever made it through life without the govt. telling us what to do. Thank goodness for the govt. Let's see, they tell us what we can and can't eat. What we can and can't drink. What we can and can't smoke. They make us put our seat belts on in the car. They tell us what we can read. If you're in the airport you can't even make a JOKE about anything that might be related to "terror" (whatever the fuck that means). They tell us what we can write. What we can create in music, literature, and film.

And lately they have told us what we can THINK. And didn't someone post up a thread to an article about homeland security taking people's computers now at airports? Because they might have "dangerous" writing on them for terrorists? lol

So now if I even READ freakin' words on a screen...it's "dangerous"

Free? This don't sound like it to me. Give me a congressman, a senator, or a president that can do something that nobody else has ever done. REPEAL 90% of the bullshit laws that restrict my freedom as an adult. That would impress me.

It seems Obama's main objective is to promote himself.

Tried that this time around with Ron Paul.

The average American just laughs at him because he "won't win" and he "speaks funny" etc. Popularity and vanity has even spread to who you can and can't vote for, in case your friends find out...

The problem with a thread like this, is that people don't base their vote on what they tell you they're basing their vote on.

They like to find alot of bad stuff to say about the candidate they're not voting for, but that's not the real reason they won't vote for him.

If experience was the big important thing people say it is, then that means they voted for Gore over Bush, because Gore had tons more experience than Governor Bush.

If military service was the big important thing people say it is, like they say now when listing things that are so great about McCain, and like they said when they bashed Clinton for being a draft dodger in 1992....then they would have voted for John Kerry in 2004, a war hero who volunteered for service in Vietnam and won 3 purple hearts, as opposed to Bush who used his family connections to get out of the draft and serve in the Nat'l Guard instead.....duty which he didn't even report for all the time.

I seriously doubt that the people who are screaming about experience, or military service, this year, voted for Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004.
They voted for Bush both times, and they're going to vote for McCain this time....and 4 years from now they're going to find reasons to hate the Democratic nominee, no matter who it is.

BTW, this is true for people on my side of the aisle too, who were willing overlook Clinton's extra-marital indiscretions because we liked his policies....but would gladly be righteously indignant if McCain were caught having an affair and would revel in the non-stop press coverage that would ensue.

This country is so polarized, I doubt there is anyone who is truly undecided. I think those who say they are undecided are just undecided about whether or not they're going to show up and vote...but if they do vote, they've already decided who it will be for.
I think this election, just like the past two, will turn on who gets their people to show up on election day.

Yes and no.

We're 60 miles or so inland, so we don't have to worry about storm surge or flooding or anything like that.....but we will catch alot of rain and wind etc.

I got a generator today and stocked up on some groceries....tomorrow I'll be cleaning up the yard and securing everything I can. Then we'll just have to ride it out.

With Katrina we didn't have any damage, just lost power and phone service for a long time. Hopefully this one won't be as bad.

I would leave, just because I won't be able to work anyways, and I could just go north and have a vacation....but I have 4 cats and 2 dogs and nobody to take care of them, so I gotta stick around for them.
