Great thread Sharky! It looks like you have tons of workout partners! I found a site that allows you to set up groups of four people to cheer each other on and do similar workouts and such at PeerTrainer.com. It helped me quite a bit, actually.

I'm all for losing my last 8 STUBBORN pounds. Ugh they've been hanging around forever it feels like!

sue 08-27-2008 04:26 PM

I have been about the same weight since my teens, I am 40 now. And believe me when I say I eat a lot. The secret is simple, eat 6-7 times per day but smaller meals and exercise daily. Skip all drinks besides water, lots of proteins, fruit and vegetables. AND DO NOT TRY TO SKIP ALL CARBS!!!! Your brain needs food as well and your body needs the carbs to recover from the exercise.

What hits me the most is that most really overweight people skip breakfast and sometimes lunch as well and only have a huge dinner. That is the worst you can do to your body. Dont skip any meal at all!!

*hugs and kisses*

Yes, that's how I am...

I'm 5'9 and change and around 265.....I might have lost 15 pounds maximum since February but I'm down a shirt size from 2xl to xxl....I've just now discovered the magic of squats so I'm going to be losing more inches in no time....

I can't see me weighing any less than 250 when I get down to xl.....

I just lift weights and squeeze in some Yoga and Pilates when I can.....Plus lots of time in the Sauna and Jacuzzi....Plus I swim a little bit.......But when I'm in the weightroom, I work out HARD so that I can build muscle and in turn, burn more calories while I am at rest......My sex drive has gone through the roof and my ballsac is always on full....I bust nice thick loads now on the routine....

If you aren't worried about pounds and more about looking good and reversing the aging process, LIFT WEIGHTS!!!.....I should've been doing this shit a long time ago.....I dont' diet or any of that shit....I still drink but it's mostly Merlot these days and I still smoke the herb.....I quit smoking cigarettes regularly but that has only been since June so for five of the past 8 months, I was inhaling toxic Newport smoke........I also have a half eaten $1 double cheeseburger from Mcdonalds sitting right here.....

I take Zinc and Folic acid for muscle growth and sperm development....I just bought some Magnesium today to help me lift weights....And I also take a multi vitamin....

And when I'm eating a fatty meal, I pop a couple capsules of Chitosan because not only does it suck up the fat out of your meal, it's a great source of fiber....

fatfoo 08-27-2008 09:11 PM

Pornopat 08-27-2008 09:16 PM

My goal is around 220.

X Industry Jobs 08-27-2008 09:19 PM

I'll run the opposite of you guys. I'm at 155.. I'd like to get to 205.

Snake Doctor 08-27-2008 09:38 PM

I just read this book (and another one similar to it)
http://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Free-...97896&sr= 8-1

and feel like I've already lost 100lbs....the weight that was lifted off of my shoulders.

It's obviously not for everyone. Not everyone is overweight for the same reason. Our chosen profession doesn't exacltly burn lots of calories during the work day.

BUT, for some people, going on a diet or joining a gym to lose weight is like taking cough syrup for emphysema.

Socks 08-27-2008 10:18 PM

Pretty crazy all the 200-300 pound people around here.. That's a lot of pounds!

I'm curious.. What did you guys weigh at 14-15 years old, 20 years old, 25, 30, 35, etc? Did you experience rapid weight gain over a few years, or did you just have big parents?

14 - 15 I was about 155lbs

18 when I graudated High School, I was about 175lbs.

Summer of 18 I shot up to 200lbs and was that till about 22.

I've been as high as 280lbs last year.

It's wholly dependent on my activity level.

jblur 08-28-2008 07:56 AM

Yes.....

A sport just isn't as fun if you're out of shape....Last Judo class was January of 2008.....We did some kind of exercise where you bend over fast to touch the floor and then kick your legs back into a pushup position and then come back and stand up again....When I bent over, the sharp pain that my intestines gave me let me know that I didn't need to be in there right now...

I've been in the gym ever since......And I don't care what people say about the "technique" of Judo...When you're in a tournament, you need stamina and MUSCLE......."technique" only works if the other person isn't expecting you to put a judo move on them.....I know personally that it's damn near impossible to throw me in a sparring session and I don't care what belt you are...

Ben.Z 08-28-2008 08:44 AM

Add me to the list... :upsidedow

The excercise you are talking about sounds like burpees. I usually jump when standing back up as highh as possible. And yes Bro, it's a fucking bitch. :(

I agree on the technique, it always looks pretty in practice, but in tourneys, its all about who's the stronger PLUS technique. Get back in the saddle soon man!

You don't care what people that actually know about Judo have to say? It's about technique and using the other persons motion against them.

I know a 70 year old man who could throw you around like a bag of lollipops and there's nothing you could do to stop him. That's what 50 years of Judo does to a person. :2 cents:

I'm 5'10 and used to be around 235, now I'm below 180. The trick is to ease into the diet, don't just start out fasting and completely cutting out your favorite foods because you'll hate your life, blame the diet and quit.

First, take the foods that you eat right now and just make them less bad for you. Ex. if you get fried chicken, remove the skin. If you order pizza, get veggie toppings or just cheese. If you get fast food order the chicken sandwich (the grilled kind, the breaded chicken is actually worse for you) and don't get fries or a meal. You're better off getting another burger than getting fries and a drink. Also, get everything sans cheese.

Second, drink a shit ton of water -- it'll make you less hungry and it spurs muscle growth, which you need to cut down fat. If you have to mix it with Crystal Lite, do it, it's only like 10 calories a package.

Third, exercise. The same is true of exercise as diet, don't start trying to run 5 miles a day. If you push yourself too hard with exercise you'll hate your life and give up. I'm not a nutritionist, I just used to be fat and now I'm not.

Of course I care what people who know about Judo has to say....HOWEVER, when it comes to a tournament, against an opponent who also knows Judo, you also need MUSCLE....I'm not saying that you don't use any technique at all...However:

Technique + Muscle > Technique alone....

And I haven't run into anybody in a tournament who has practiced for 50 years.....And he would probably throw me all over the mat.....But I'll bet you I can knock him the fuck out!!!

JesseD 08-28-2008 12:56 PM

I have a good weight loss program.

I snort all of my food. First I lay my food out on the table. Then I cut it up using a credit card. I roll up a $100 (sometimes a $1 if I already visited the Cheetah's that day) and snort away. First, it really burns. But, I only get in 400 - 500 calories a day like this.

Sarah_Jayne 08-28-2008 01:44 PM

I will say that probably the most important thing I have learned after a life time of diets and finally finding what works for me is to not really be on a diet but eat how I plan to eat for the rest of my life. It took me about 6 months or a year for how I eat now to feel just like how I eat rather than me sacrificing anything on a 'diet'. Yeah, I count calories and fat grams every day but that is a portion control thing and a mindset control thing for me rather than being about what types of foods I eat. Tomorrow is my 'cheat' day and my big treat is some hummus and marinated artichokes. That is miles away from who I used to be with food.

The second thing I have learned, is not to make it a quick sprint but understand this will take a long time and therefore hopefully stay off. Every time I have lost any amount of weight quickly it has come back and brought some friends.

Life change rather than diet is what finally has worked for me.

Solid advice right here...

I weighed in at 260 this morning.. so 8lbs down this week. It's all water weight, I know. I drank pretty good at the Qwebec expo, so the water weight was a given. It's certainly motivating to see the # drop.

I am putting together the details for the contest and hope to have something official online late next week:-)

Look for BIG prizes and incentives to drop the weight the right way!

WTS_JOHN 09-02-2008 12:51 PM

I hit the scale today... down to 222 now... only lost 2 pounds over august but I was glad to have not gained any weight...

I'll weigh in again on october 1st... my goal is 200 by 1st of January...

theharvman 09-02-2008 12:57 PM

more power to ya.

Sharky 09-02-2008 02:31 PM

Awesome John. I am at 259 as of this morning, jwhich isn't bad as I did have a few beers yesterday to celebrate Labor Day:-)
