:mad Jazz Airlines ( Air Canada ) Removes Life Vests To Save On Fuel

nice fucking move ..... soon we will have to get an enema before boarding ....

Quote:
Enfield, Nova Scotia (AHN) - Jazz Airlines, the regional airline of Air Canada, announced Sunday that it is removing inflatable life vests in its Dash-8 aircraft to reduce weight and save fuel.

Canadian Press reported that Transport Canada allows airlines to use flotation devices instead of life vests as long as planes remain within 90 kilometers (56 miles) off the shore.

Jazz has adjusted its East Coast routes to comply with the 90-kilometer limit. Jazz passengers are now advised to use seat cushions as flotation devices.

A life vest weighs about half a kilogram (1.1 pounds). About 25 kilograms (55.1 pounds) would be saved by removing them from a 50-seater airplane.

Halifax MP Peter Stoffer says dropping life vests from Jazz flights is "asinine," adding that the regional carrier has "gone cost-saving overboard," reported the Chronicle Herald.
Hold on to that seat cushion .....

The paradox of the life-vest-on-the-airplane is that, in the situation where you need the life vest, you probably won't be alive to use it lol

And what exactly is a life vest going to do to save anyone's life? Take them off all planes for all I care... if a plane crashes, I'm dead.

They're saving 55 pounds, that's it?! Jesus, just boot the fat guy off the flight and they'll have the same savings, something like this is so miniscule that its not worth it.

By the way, every flight I've ever been on has always said to use seat cushions as flotation devices. So is this a Canadian only thing or what?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopi...nes_Flight_961

hijacked plane pilot runs out of fuel and attempts water landing near the beach
plane breaks down, some people are killed because of the crash, others drown because they put on the life vests too early, but 50 of 163 people on board, survive and are soon rescued by the people on the beach

if the plane landed a few kilometers from the beach instead of just a few hundred meter, the life vests would be even more important and they would save their lifes

No, they are under the cushions. I have one that I bring in my carry-on, just in case.

Most Canadians are Chinese/Indian/Arabs and because there is such a large supply available of these their replacing cost is very low because there will always be others from China/India/Middle east ready to take their place.

On May 2, 1970, a DC-9 jet with 57 passengers and a crew of six departed from New York?s JFK International Airport en route to the tropical island of St. Maarten, but four hours and 34 minutes later the flight ended in the shark-infested waters of the Caribbean. It was, and remains, the only open-water ditching of a commercial jet. The subsequent rescue of survivors took nearly three hours and involved the coast guard, navy, and marines. This gripping account of that fateful day recounts what was happening inside the cabin, the cockpit, and the helicopters as the crews struggled against the weather and dwindling daylight to rescue the survivors, who had only their life vests and a lone escape chute to keep them afloat.

Anyway the big picture is not big enough for the kids to see...

The point is that cash struggling airlines are ready to any measure to cut cost, even at the expense of the passengers safety.

Pilots have been complaining that aircrafts were readied for take off with just enough fuel to reach their destination, keeping the plane as light as possible.... but with not enough fuel in case of an emergency ....
