Biggest upset in Olympic beach volleyball history, USA owned

by team Latvia. Who?? lol

Those two Latvian dudes played one hell of a match, beating the top seeded team USA in two straight.

Latvia = ranked 23rd, btw.

There might be an upset in basketball too. International ball players are incredibly adept at the game now - even the NBA has drawn heavily from overseas players (some of whom the US team will be playing against at the Olympics).

Haven't played yet.

But they aren't ranked #1 like the US is. There will be no "massive upset" if they lose.

They need to win their next two matches to get into medal contention.

They'll probably do it if they can shake off this insane upset. They are ranked #1 after all.

But those Latvians, damn. If they can keep playing like that they are going to blindside a lot of people.

dude you're Canadian - you have no right to laugh at any other country's Olympic performances.

There's a reason the official motto of the Canadian Olympic team is 'EPIC FAIL'

It's sad when one's country is so athletically deficient that they have to take solace in other nation's failures.

Carry on.

Who is taking solace? All I did was say what happened.

Again with the defensive hypersensitivity. Fact is it wouldn't have mattered if the roles were reversed and it was any two countries (even Canada) on the losing end, if such an extreme upset happened I would still have said something.

Get over yourself. :D

Is it really your contention that have been no other extreme upsets in the last few days? I must have missed these posts:

Emmons Upsets Chinese Favorite for First Beijing Gold.
Romania's Alina Dumitru beats Ryoko Tani of Japan in the Judo semis.

Hypersensitivity? I could not care less. Your glee when making the original post was transparent and I called you on it.

Carry on.

Every TV announcer, and I was watching it on a US feed btw, called it the largest upset of the sport, and the largest one of this Olympics so far. And you assuming my "lol" was aimed at the US is rather presumtuous and overly sensitive of you, and your reaction is quite obviously defensive, there's no denying it.

I have no idea how that big stick got up your ass but if you relax maybe it'll drop out. :D

Noted. US talking heads on a feed say it - CDSmith believes it lock, stock, and barrel.

Both you and I know that you won't go through the trouble of posting a mocking thread if a Georgian athlete upsets a Iranian and Turk in the steeplechase... even if it's the biggest upset ever.

That's why you're transparent. Frankly, I don't even begrudge you the glee.

I enjoyed watching the favorites get knocked down several pegs and look forward to seeing how they'll respond in the remainder of pool play.

I learned later that the Latvian duo trained by playing against teams of six, in order to be able to challenge the massive #1 ranked US team.

The center of the universe for that sport and it's inception IS California. It really is like some unkown coming out of left field and beating goliath. That's what's so amazing about it, and that amazingness is why I posted. The "lol" was aimed at it being "Latvia" that did it, since a) no one saw them coming or doing this whasoever apparently, and b) I hazard a guess that many N. Americans couldn't even find Latvia on a map. It wasn't a malicious laugh at all, and nowhere in my post did I jump for joy over the failing of the USA or it's athletes.

I was simply amazed at the size of this upset, that's it. Anyone taking it any other way or reading more into is does so at peril of me telling them what uptight hypersensitive idiots they are being.

Cheers.

Sorry, some of those announcers are former athletes themselves, so pardon moi if I take their opinion over yours. It's obvious that your lack of knowledge on this particular sport could fill an ocean, but your opinion should hold sway lock stock and barrel here...why exactly?

No, you think that, I've already posted what I know. Your refusal to believe me is your problem, not mine.

That I can agree on, but again I have taken no particular "glee" in that it happened to be the US. Fact is anyone taking the least bit of effort to read my diatribes and scribblings on this board over the last 8 years probably knows full well that I am in many ways quite partial to my southern nieghbors.

That doesn't even make sense sparky. They're rank is almost off the radar, I doubt even the two guys that comprise your US squad knew it until today. They played like that was the case anyway.

The fact that they were off YOUR radar until today doesn't make them off the radar. Do you think this is the first time these exact teams have faced off?

Canada hasn't moved, it stayed right where it's always been, right above the USA. Check any world map, shouldn't be too hard to spot us.

The Canadian squad of Heese and Cadieux were ranked 19th, but needed to do well in Norway recently, and they didn't. They lost 3 straight to team Norway in fact, and that loss pushed them just out of Olympic contention.

However, our former team (Heese & Child) used to be ranked 2nd at one time I believe, and they took the bronze in Atlanta. Child is retired, and Heese is now 38.

"Any other dumbness you'd care to impart?".... somehow I just knew the answer was yes. :D

Do some reading instead of squawking like an idiot here dude. There are now a deluge of news items all over the web as of now, from the BBC to MSNBC and virtually every sports blog that covers beach volleyball, they're all calling this a huge upset. It's obvious no one saw the Latvians beating the US, the score should have been lopsided the other way.

I just find it a bit ironic for you to be going around talking about the US got owned when your country didn't even qualify to compete according to you.

How so? Canada has nothing to do with this ownage.

And a lot of countries news agencies are reporting on it, are they all being "ironic" as well?

Hahaha... it's hilarious how many people's immediate reaction is to attack Canada.

And you wonder why the world thinks that the US is arrogant.

I am sure it has something to do with the coachs family getting hacked up... Ya heartless bastard!
Sorry I missed your post Jon, ha ha. No, that guy I believe is the coach of the US volleyball team, not beach volleyball.

The one distracting thing that did happen before the beach volleyball match was that they (Rogers and Dalhausser) did have a visit from president curious George. Maybe it's Bush's fault they lost? :D

What, you guys are so afraid of catching teh ghey that you won't watch any men's events? That's pretty pathetic. :D
