The mob & most federal agencies are run the same way. Fear, extortion & physical violence are their strongest weapons.

I love the Agency and the Sopranos... only thing with the Agency this year is that the loss of that one character.. (the guy who got shot last season) seems to have hurt it a tad.. I dont like the new guy.. and I miss that hot black chick.. she was the bomb... but other than that the show rules..
And im from New Jersey.. The Sopranos has a "cult" following in these parts. hehe |

Chris Isaak Show on Showtime is awesome.
Other than that I watch the Sopranos and West Wing. I tried Girls Club but it was pretty lousy. Not much good on television these days. I want them to make Fox News Watch a daily program. C. |

Most of the time I would rather read a book or make love!

This is what director David Lynch had to say about TV:
Q. I'm curious about Twin Peaks, which you lived with for years as a TV show, and later as a movie. Would you ever consider returning to television? A. I don't think so, but you should never say never. I don't like television. I don't like it because it forces a person to move too fast. Waterskiing works really good when you're moving fast because you stay on the surface. But for a lot of things you want to go deep. I think television forces you into a shallow sort of thing. Besides those you should see "The Elephant Man", "Blue Velvet", "Wild at Heart" and "The Straight Story". Although if you are the sort of person who would prefer to watch studio fodder like "Independence Day" then I probably wouldn't go to all that effort. Lynch's films are masterpieces of mood so you need a slightly longer attention span than for most Hollwood movies. I think he's one of the few genuine American auteurs working in cinema today. I'd be tempted to put Martin Scorsese and Joel and Ethan Coen in that elite group as well. |

I've seen parts of Blue Velvet, which was lousy. Albino is Albino Alligator. As I said Twin Peaks was good, and I've heard Fire Walk With Me was pretty decent, haven't seen it. But what I have seen of his movies turned me off to any further investigation. I asked one of my friends who's a big fan what Lynch's strategy was, because I was convinced he made movies so that snobs could say 'you didn't like it because you didn't UNDERSTAND it' but she confirmed for me that noone understands his movies, not even those who like them. Wim Wenders is one of my favorite directors, though he too has directed pieces of shit. I watch movies for the experience, I enjoy them. I found Lynch's films to be utterly devoid of anything meaningful. My opinion of course, just found it ironic that he didn't like television when it was the only format where he won widespread critical praise. C. |

Man, the only thing I can suggest and read the interview (link is posted above) and see if that clues you in to where he's coming from. Like all art, you understand it and appreciate it more when you know more about the artist. I think "The Elephant Man" is an extraordinary film. I think its a great shame that the art of cinema has been debased by Hollywood studios. Film to me is more than a few flashy special effects and time-worn cliches. I'd much rather see something original and challenging. |
