My daughter is a Shell Back now

When I was in the Navy, we crossed the equator and went thru an age old tradition, one of the oldest, it was used to test the resolve of the new sailors and turned into what it is now. There has been some changes since I went thru I'm sure, with all the hazing problems that has happened in the military since I was in.
Shell Back
It feels great to have my daughter experience what I told her about in bed time stories about my life. She's going to different countries like China, she had a blast getting dinner there!
She's aboard the USS Ronald Reagon, the biggest baddest war ship on the planet and is serving as a Avionics Calibration tech. When she gets out, she wants to continue schooling in holistic medicine with the help of a program she gets thru the military.

Anyways, heres some pics she sent me

Tell her congrats from a fellow shellback. I knew some "men" that were too pussy-fied to go through with it when I did it on The Independence in 89. I'm sure a lot HAS changed - but it is still the single-most event that makes a sailor a sailor.

I'm careful what I post about my daughter, she was raised to take care of herself, she's tougher than a lot of men I know. She's my best friend in the world, and I wouldn't have it any other way

There were no shellaghies used in my shellback either and that was in 96 or so. They stopped that a long time ago.

Nights on the flight deck inside the circle with the Aurora Borealis was, and still is to this day is, the most incredible thing I have ever seen, it will just leave you speechless.

Linkster: They REALLY pussified all the traditions down even when I was there in the early ?90?s, they started to allow women on board right after my last cruise which forced all the change, for good or bad.

If you haven?t seen the miniseries ?Carrier? look for it, it?s amazing what has changed and what has stayed the same.

There are days I miss it, but man am I happy I am out.
