how old were you when you moved out of your parents place??

i jus turned 20 a lil while ago, still livign at home i can afford to move out but i feel like im gonna be throwing money down the toilet on renting or/but i'll get screwed on an interest rate if i buy a house right now before my credit is nice n established. i own an investment property which is gonna help establish my credit but it'll probably take a while (till im 21)

am i being smart with my money for doing this or am i just a cheap bastard who needs to get out??

I moved out at 21. If you think it's better waiting until 21 and your folks are agreeable then why not stay at home for another 10 months or whatever?

At 18 exactly.

I went to the bank on the day of my birthday. Cash out trust fund, signed all papers, etc.

Then went and signed papers on apartment, and was packing up that day. Was completely moved out within two.

I'd wait and buy if I were you as long everything at home is cool. Pitch in for the groceries and pay some rent to the folks but there is nothing wrong living at home.

Seems to me like you have things planned out. If you have to wait 1 year before putting your plan into motion, that's no big deal.

its just me and my dad. i pay my cable, net, blackberry, buy my own food... he doesnt care if i stay or go

on one hand i could wait it out and actually buy a house and make an investment by waiting it out and going straight to buying rather then throwing money away in an apartment on the other hand it is a long time and i feel like a fuckin loser like george costanza cuz im still living at home

dude you live in port charlotte, they are giving the houses away now. I am surprised they are not paying people to move in. Find out what the outlook is for 6 months down the road. 7 years ago the lots in town were 3 grand. 4 years ago they were 50+ grand and selling like crazy. Now they are half that LOL,

Twenty. If I hadn't been pressured to go to college I would have done it earlier. I was living in the garage/adu though; it wasn't like my mom was doing my laundry and making me waffles every morning.

thats exactly what half of me is thinkin...when i look at all of the really successful ppl i know they all got kicked out/left at an early age....but on the other hand the numbers add up that if i wait a while longer till my credit history is longer it could be more financially lucrative

I had my own place at 18. It was awesome. I had pool parties with my cheerleader girlfriends from high school who all still lived at home, and we had lots of fun.

if I had only known then what I would be doing now, I might have taken more pics.

move out and live, parents just hold you back.

Let this older guy give you some advice. You get along good with your folks and help out not just leech off of them. Stay until you got a bunch of money in the bank, you work hard low bills that should be 5 yrs or so. Because you will never have the safety net you have now once you leave.

17 when I went to college full time and never did move back, just stayed for weekends and stuff. And I got along GREAT with my Dad and could have lived there forever and had 100% independence. My brother did the same with my Mom. I guess we were just raised that once you started college, the locks were being changed, lol.

definitely puts you on the fast track to being more responsible & smarter about a lot of things... its when the real 'hustle' starts

at least for me it was

i'd recommend it for that reason alone...

Why the rush to move out? Know which side your breads buttered on Dude !
I still live at home, and Im forty next year... Why give up a good thing?

Just cause some 'losers' on a message board say they all moved out before they had even grown up properly?

Im really happy. Mom feeds me real well... She cooks whenever I tell her to, and cooks whatever I want, when I want it... Even if I wake her up at 3.30 am to cook for me... As long as her hip holds out, its all good.

Untill such time as she takes too long to get up and walk to the kitchen... Im staying here.

So, just do your own thing dude. Theres no stigma except in your own mind...

Yeah, and one more tip... Yes, there's a social stigma attached to living 'in moms basement'...

I can understand that, but heres what us smart guys do...

We live upstairs, and make Mom live in the basement ! It only takes a few threats, and if shes to old to complain... Easy street all the way !

I have a cousin, he lived with my great aunt and uncle to the day they died. He took care of them in their old age. He probably still lives in that house in LI(not close with him probably the last time I saw him I was 10). He always worked hard, owned a bowling alleyso he wasnt poor by any stretch. He just liked living with my Aunt Toostie and she loved having him home. When he was a young man, he would come home 2am with his friends after being out.She would get up and cook them breakfast.

I moved out @ 22 into an apartment, then @ 23 into a house, then flipped that property and brought my 2nd property @ 25 an now I am 26. If you can buy a place that u know will still hold its value once the market balances out. Dont rent, with todays prices it isnt worth it.
