Olympic Opening Ceremony

It was beautiful, especially the little girl singing.

Props to China, they pulled it off.

Nah, I couldn't really care (for one I am not from LA or America even). It was a good show, found that little girl more funny than anything. But the Chinese are basically putting on a classic fascist performance all way round. I am sure if LA could just bulldoze peoples homes that made the route look dirty and plant flowers in their place with money that would of been going to welfare cheques, than make any local who protests about it disappear they would put on a pretty nice show too.

It will go down as one of the most impressive of all time I'm sure.

Saw some behind the scenes footage this morning, the amount of energy that went into that was unbelievable.

If it was "subconscious propaganda" - how were you able to comprehend and comment on it at a higher level of consciousness?

I swear, some of the comments I see posted on this board utterly astound me.

It was an interpretive tribute to China's four great inventions in history, involving literally thousands of performers.

Yes, all those up and down flowing boxes were secretly brainwashing you... use less gas... leave more for Chinaaaa

They are spending 10 times what Greece spent. Will be interesting to see if there are any changes in plans to the games in London after seeing the awesome display China put on.

Of course it would happen. If they want to build a highway over your house, they don't knock down your house and leave you on the street in the US. The point is the Chinese Government has put on a little fascist show, restricting any rights to free speech or protest from its own people and morons like you sit on the side line clapping. People like you are the ones with no idea, you have no idea how far it has gone in China, Nazi Germany would be envious. Watch a video of how they have trained their athletes for this, the contracts they have forced their trainers to sign (guaranteeing gold medals), how they have told past Olympic champions if they don't win again their previous victories mean nothing, how MANY people they have displaced and hidden behind walls like this: http://omoikane.minstrum.net/one-world.jpg, how quickly they jump on just about any individual of interest talking to the media is surrounded with plain clothed police in the background. It goes on and on and on, and idiots like you are the ones with no idea. If China were a white or European country maybe the self-hating emo's like you might have the courage to actually question their actions, but because they are not you sit around finding a way to blame those who do.

Well, considering that technology was nowhere near the same back then I guess we can fully expect London to put Beijing to shame.

So what's your point? You don't like China because they built a wall in front of someones mess of a house?

I doubt it, you should of seen the pundits in the studio after the opening ceremony, they were all like "How the fuck are we going to top that?" All puzzled and everything, was pretty funny.

Some of you need to go back to watching CNN for your anti-china drivel.

For fuck sake, give them a little credit .. they are doing it well. Good job China

It was pretty amazing. I watched it live and then the repeat at 2:30am until 7am, lol it was a long one but truly amazing.

After the last 2 Olympics they knew they had to do something they've made the games more personal this time. With all the promos about the back stories of the people. A mom of Ohio, a 41 yr old swimmer, a 16 year old girl.. etc etc. And then China pulling all the stops with that was just the iceing on the cake.

It's good to see people getting back into it.. after 8 years of nothing.

Wow yeah, you clearly have a far better grasp of the situation. How about you debate it rather than trying to do a baddog and disappear. China has put together a well managed Olympics, Chinese and Asians in general are very capable people, but that isn't the point. When the US drops food to half the starving world and than bombs on half of Iraq, does that mean we shouldn't question the latter on account of the former? Wake up.

the only way the London Olympics can top this is by reviving John Lennon and re-grouping the full crewed Beatles for 1 show

Errr im sorry but thats just not right...... she was used in another show before termination. They had to see what caused the fault in the piano girl so they wanted to see if they could replicate the error.

That is just silly. The owners would have been similarly compensated in the USA. There were also many protests from people who were unhappy to lose their homes, so apparently not everyone was satisfied with their compensation.

Anyway I guess the point is that as long as China does not ally with the US then their actions will always be OK in your eyes...... because of course injustice only happens in the US or as the result of US actions (technically refereed to as "war crimes").

I literally got HDTV the day before (I know - I've only had an HD ready TV for 7 years....I'm slow......). What an AMAZING way to break it in.

If you haven't seen it, try and find it on the web or see if someone taped it somewhere. I attended ATL's opening and closing ceremonies and even actually being there in ATL dulls in comparison to watching the China event on TV. Just incredible.

BTW, from what I've been reading, they have been knocking down the "alley" houses for quite some time and will continue to do so long after the Olympics are over. Also everything I've read points to the owners not being very well compensated, i.e. they are unable to find housing with the money (perhaps rent, but not own).

They ditched and switched to improve the visuals.
