"Shadowplay" by The Killers

That's got to be the best cover I've heard in a long time. It gets some good airplay on alternative rock radio. You know a cover is good when it doesn't sound exactly like the original. Too often covers end up that way. The Killers really almost turn it into a different song. Especially with that "hoo hoo hoo" part, which is the best part of the song IMO. Original song is by Joy Division, and the video is a tribute to them.

I agree 100%. I'm glad someone else noticed too. This song hasn't got out of my head since I've heard it the first time...

And I agree with the philosophy of "...,

-1st, don't pick the band's classic because you ain't gonna improve it (countless examples like Sheryl Crow's Sweet Child O' Mine cover.. Hgrrr Damn it sucks...

-And 2nd, don't make it sound exactly like the original because you're not bringing anything new to the song and its experience to the listenner so why bother?

The Killers definately made it their own and modernized the song but they als kept the hypnotic drum beat and guitars.

Very good post.

Anyone make any new great rock/pop song discoveries? Doesn't matter if it's old or new. A good song is a good song no matter the decade. Just as long as it is a new discovery of your's.

You may be right if you are in the older crowd or musicly cultured. But I cant tell you how many times Ive heard a great song and loved it, later to find out it was a cover. Most of the time, I end up liking the newer version, because that was the first one I heard and felt something for.

Same goes for movies and books imo.

Yea Killers are a good band, and they did a good job with this cover. I always liked Joy Division/New Order.
