Ladies... which perfume would you recommend?

If I'm looking to buy it as a gift, which perfumes should I be looking at? Which would you recommend?

Something quite mild, not too strong or overpowering. I'd like to have something in mind when I go to the store (don't want to seem totally clueless)... Just looking for something nice, 'cause there are a lot of crappy scents out there.

Thanks!

Smells oooohh so sexy!!

For females: Laura by Laura Ashley - Mild and very refreshing

I'm very sensitive to heavy perfumes ~ in fact there are only five I've ever been able to wear;

Issey Miyake
L'Eau d'Issey
(favorite)

Hugo Boss
Deep Red
(spicey)

Lolita Lempicka
Eau de Parfum
(light)

Christian Dior
Remember Me
(floral)

Christian Dior
Dulce Vita
(sweet)

I hope this helps ~ I know picking out a scent can be a huge headache (literally).

The Issey Miyake scent for men is good too, and there's this one by Abercrombie and Fitch called 'Woods' ~ I think it smells neat. Of course, I like the smell of Old Spice Energy Deoderant... so I don't think I'm that hard to please in that department.
Also, when I was going through puberty there was this guy I had a major crush on ~ he always wore Drakkar Noir, so it just *does something* to me.

If you're buying for a guy, I reccommend Monte Blanc, or very sexy by Victoria's Secret.

If it's for a girl, I would reccommend Polo in the turqoise bottle, the new J-lo, or I can't think of the name, but it's pink with a silver cap and it's from Lancome.

For a guy, my favorite is Paco Raban (used to date a guy that wore it and I'm hooked!).

I don't wear expensive women's perfume, as I much prefer my favorite soft musk or anything vanilla.

kinda tricky buying a scent for someone when you don't know what they like. maybe you should ask her mom what she likes.

when it comes to stuff that just looks classy on the dressing table, ya can't beat good old chanel no 5 or nine.

you could also try one of those places that makes perfumes for the individual. that way she can have a scent made especially for her.

or hit the perfume counter with her at a local upscale store. Let her try at will and see what she says about them.

Nice idea, thanks PK.
But... it is a surprise gift.

When I asked my sister she recommended "narcisse". Smelt it in the store, personally I don't like it. For some reason it reminds me of wasps.

It's really hard to buy perfume for someone without at least an idea of what she likes. Perhaps ask her what she is wearing the next time you see her, then go to the store and ask to see some with similar notes.

That way you dont put a floral on a citrus, or a musk on a green, etc.

Exactly... you get the chance to scope out what she likes.. what you like on her..etc.. and she's none the wiser until she opens the gift at a later date.
