Every 20 years...

Every 20 years we advance enough that we can't believe the way we did things 20 years ago. So think where we will be 20 years from now. We feel like we are so advanced and things are amazing right now. 20 years from now think where we will be.

Let's make some predictions...

Video games will look just like analog TV does today.

Treatment for Parkinsons.

Major advancements in the cloning of human body parts.

Only a few major new cars will run soley on the gas engine.

Almost every home will have a projector instead of a regular TV.

The CFL lightbulb will be obsolete because it used too much power.

20 years? .. erm, ok! Here are my guesses, may be not in 20 but this will eventually happen, may be in 3-4 decades.

We will be able to machine read human brain, and write too. Kind of install Engineering memory card and you are an Engineer, etc.

Overall brain interfacing will be quite common. Think of something, and robot/machine will do that. It can be a robotics arm, or stand-alone robot maid. (actually, this is partially done already)

Credit cards, ID cards, driving licenses and all similar stuff will be synchronized (is it right word?) with your finger prints, so you wont keep heavy wallet. Every time you want to pay at store, you will place your thumb and enter PIN and amount.

Intelligent mutually interacting cars will be on roads, they will continuously interacting with nearer cars and powerful computers will compute stuff to reduce accidents and increase automation. Aircraft kind of do this, already.

Some kind of wireless internet (may be, free) access will be available in every corner of the world.

Google will declare itself eGod. lol

Flying cars, as most of you know.

Space trips will get cheaper.

Alternative of oil? may be sun.

World will no longer remain unipolar.

A world war? lol ..

Kenyans will stop raping charity girls, may be.

etc.

Since the world is going to end in 2012, this is mere speculation...

Less expensive and more advanced DNA testing will allow screening for diseases and will be used for preventative medical purposes.

The lower costs for DNA identification will also make carrying cash, credit cards and documents such as drivers licenses or passports obsolete.

Human colonies will be established on the moon and Mars.

The current Bush administration will be recognized as the most corrupt government in recorded history with many of its officials still serving time in prison.

When I was A kid I always thought it would be cool to just phone people with a walkie talkie instead of going to the phone box or pestering my parents to use the house phone which normally resulted in a stern "NO" Now we have mobile phones my dream came true

Hey Ryan long time no talk to. Hope all is well.

I was thinking about this the other day comparing my generation and that of my college age children. We started talking about what they have that we didn't have and surprisingly we really came up with a lot fewer advancements than we thought there would be.

Lots of improvements on existing things technology wise but as far as "NEW" the list was surprisingly limited. As I see it the advancements in technology have backfired in many ways as it pertains to the condition our kids are in today, both physically and mentally vs. 20 years ago.

What do you think have been our major advancements in the past 20 years?

Good thread topic

Well in 1988 I was working on an IBM compatible probably 16bit color monitor if I was lucky. Using a vhs video camera on a tripod and an easel setup with photos on it to do video photo albums. Id then plug the cameras video output to a vcr, and a cdplayers audio out to the vcr and make video photo albums for people. lol And when I did the editing on our school videos back then I used 3 vcrs and a jog shuttle setup with a control panel to edit and add effects etc. In 1988 Cell phones were only used in cars, and they took about 3 hours to install them and cost about 1500 to 2000.00 lol Lots of changes.

In 1988, we wore really dumb outfits and pretended to be gansta rappers.

Hey, wait a minute.

Things are so amazing right now? Uh, huh.

Where are the dreams? The ability to succeeded? Large jumbo corporations control almost everything. Being self-employed is our only option of survival. What happened to the idea, the passion and success?

In 20 years the world will suck even more then it does today. Freedom will be formed into limitations. It will be even harder to succeed. At some point I wouldn't be surprised if they started limiting food, imports etc to drive demand. They already do that in some form today and have for years. But I mean even more so and more directly.

Plus the world is suppose in end in about 1200 days so it doesn't really matter anyways lol.
