well following that same line of logic, who says there aren't invisible cats right now that you can't sense/feel in your ass?

exactly!

Although people from the future seem less of a stretch, they probably have very strict codes of conduct so they don't mess up the future

exactly, and if we can do that a few thousand years after disocvering fire and the wheel, imagine what other civilizations can have accomplished in say 100k years...

Well even if we keep advancing at the level we advance at now, we'll never be able to defy the laws of physics. There are some things that we will never be able to do. One of them is time travel to the past to change the past, it can't be done.

And you can't say one is more of a stretch than the other, both have 0 proof and are just as likely as one another!

But still, that's our best chance of traveling far distances. But time travel I'm not so sure of, Stephen Hawking said something along the lines of 'If there will ever be time travel, then why are we not flooded with people from the future?'

i'd like to see the other side of a fat black hole that should have the power...and time travel is totally possible but jean claude keeps them in check:thumbsup

k the time travel part is a joke i don't really think that is likely...black holes should have the juice the problem is staying in one piece...well that and the fact there might not actually be a wormhole there...again we are talking theories

Maybe the human shape (ish) is were evolution always will aim on any given planet where life begins.. ofcourse some planets will have weaker or stronger gravity which will make beings there somewhat different..

I'm defintly NOT saying that we, human beings in our current state, is "the final goal for evolution" because that would be just be insane - the average human being is stupid as fuck... but even if we keep on evolving for millions of years we will probably still have a head, arms and legs.. they will just be cooler :pimp

Pull your head out of your butt. Just because WE think we proved all of this to be true, does not mean a civilization millions of years older than ours have not figured out a better way to build a mouse trap. Remember, not too long ago, the brilliant minds of this great planet thought the earth was flat. If I had to bet on the correct laws of physics and on who has them right, my money is going on the little space creatures.

I would also like to add that anyone who believes in a God but not aliens, is a dumb ass beyond words.

So are you saying we still don't know if the world is flat or not? We know that it's a sphere, right? I bet Aliens think that it's a triangle, we should always believe the Aliens!

Fact is, we have proof that it's round. And that proof is much, much more reliable than some fantasy someone dreams up of some Aliens that may or may not exist.

If you believe in God and not Aliens the obvious line of thought would be that God made humans and only humans will ever be intelligent in our universe. Don't see where the dumb ass part comes in!

Anyway, even our most fundamental laws of physics are provisional. Scientist ofcourse would never brake the laws of physics, they just tend to adjust them :upsidedow

Space has no beginning and no end , There is an endless number of galaxies and universes out there... There is so much life out in space , If more intellegent than us , my guess is they would have found us by now , that is if they are in our universe or galaxy. and about the time machine... I have a feeling we will have a breakthrough soon... We have already pretty much discovered that every galaxy has a supermassive blackhole in it , including ours , the milky way galaxy , If we can somehow master wormholes and learn how to keep it open ... thats our only ticket into time travel for humans.. The time machine that is being developed now uses laser light to warp space and time ...but we can only send and recieve messages , can't send objects or a person.

xmas13 07-25-2008 03:42 AM

The proof that aliens exist is before our eyes. It's us! We are an intelligent form of life in the universe. There are others on Earth, and more elsewhere. :)))

Hardly. It's a very FAR stretch of the imagination to try to link a scientific probability to a religious faith.

I also believe in a cure for aids and cancer... because scientifically, it's very probable. That doesn't mean I automatically believe in God too.

Yeah, I didn't say I believe aliens have been here, although I certainly couldn't say that I'm 100% certain they haven't. I'm just saying that it's pretty egotistical to go thinking that humans are the center of the universe.

xmas13 07-25-2008 03:46 AM

Humans believe they are the center of everything, their life, their family, their town, their country, their continent, their planet. It's actually less primitive, smarter to assume there is stronger than you, than the contrary. Think about it, and I don't adhere to any religion including atheism.

Well said. We're proof that life can begin and evolve on a planet with ideal conditions. We're proof that another planet with ideal conditions can produce the same or similar results.
And given the age of the universe, that could have happened a long time ago, recently... any time. And thus those other intelligent life forms could have come and gone, still be going, just starting, etc.

xmas13 07-25-2008 03:51 AM

Albert Einstein philosophy was "keep an open mind".

xmas13 07-25-2008 03:55 AM

Plato said: ?Science is nothing but perception.?

Our perception is limited. We rule a planet but we don't rule the universe.

Dinosaurs have ruled this planet for a long time (160 million years if you believe scientists) before disappearing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur

xmas13 07-25-2008 04:01 AM

The radar is a very new invention, and we have already found ways to avoid detection, and it's never been so easy to trick human brain, for example with photography and related technology.

xmas13 07-25-2008 04:18 AM

Don't forget the late "Earth is flat" controversy. Anyway we have only begun to explore Earth in the past centuries, it's very early to dismiss Edgar Mitchell claim. The man may have more expertise/credentials in space exploration than all GFY members combined.

How many professional pilots in this thread?

I sincerely hope that aliens have not visited us, because if this thread is any indication, they will not like what they find.
We are truly an egotistical, close minded, naive species after all.

Ecchi22 07-25-2008 06:28 AM

When a computer models the universe based on what we know (universal constants, equations and theories all accounted for) then we get a result that looks just like our universe today. If we change anything at all, even a little bit, then the end result looks drastically different. So I'm not sure what you're getting at since people KNOW this stuff is true, have proven it true, and even applied it to technology you use everyday that wouldn't function without it.

Theory is fine ... and light bends ... yes ... true. But has anyone moved a single physical particle or whatever at the speed of light to prove it for fact? Or ... can't they do that yet?

You know ... they have teleported a single atom and that's startrek shit ... so who's to say we wont be able to find a way within 100 + years of travelling at the speed of light?

Plus ... who'd wanna go to the next galaxy? You might just be late for a lunch date :)

What we know about physics would have to be wrong or partly wrong for them to visit using conventional means unless they are closer to us than we are let on to know.

Is it outside the realm of possibility to consider time travel, wormhole travel, intra-dimensional travel? All are being studied by prominent scientists right now because they could theorectically work.

And consider our naivete about exploring our own world, only 95% of the worlds oceans have been thoroughly explored.
