I DID IT BITCHES!!! 200 mile in ONE FUCKING DAY!

I did it. What ive been training for all year. The STP. Seattle to Portland.
This is the 10th time ive done it in my life! But this one was special because I did all 202 miles in ONE FUCKING DAY this year. Normally its a two day event.

IT was pushing a hot 100 degrees in the rural areas of Washington with no shade. Fit riders/racers were pulling "DNF" (did not finish) becasue of cramping and hydration issues. One rider had a seziure from overhydration issues and is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Cant wait for next year!
Whos in?

Special thanks goes out to my Trainer MR. Masters!
Couldnt have done this without him!

The Mile 150 rest stop was like a warzone.

Riders laying all over the park out cold. Medical staff helping people. One lady went into a seziure from overhydration and fire and rescue had to attend to her. Overhydration happens when your ratio of water to electrolytes is not balanced and you intake too much water. It can and has been known to result i death. As can dehydration or a lack of water in such heat and extreme all day endurance hot conditions. Its a delicate balance that most people will never have to deal with for most people only do activity for several hours at the most.. And not in extreme heat at that.

This ride was more about constant nutrition than anything. Not just drinking and taking in electrolytes, but finding that balance between the two and sticking with a strict timing with it. Miss it by a tad and you are down for the count. Or worse in the Hospital.

That was my biggest fear the entire ride, nutrition. To see career racers and riders out cold quitting was distrubing. But seeing a lady in her 50's pass them and me up was all the more inspiring!

When its that hot and you are that beat up you dont think about sex. What I craved more than anything was a cold strawberry milkshake. Sht you not.

Im suprised you Arabs in the desert can even think about sex in that heat.

That day was hot too. But it was a 100 mile ride. That was a bitch.... But doing a 200 mile isnt twice as hard. Its 4x harder.

We were 1995 State Champ Cross country runners..our coach kept us on a strict diet and hydration.
I still remember how he put some extra sugar in our gatorades..

Dude juicy doesn't live in the desert.. :P

BP, can you recommend me a good, rather economical road bike? I'm thinking about getting a bike to train on, running is just tooooo boring for me.. I think riding a bike would be me more my thing, but I always just had mountain bikes..

I looked at a basic Cervelo, but they're around $2500 new here.. Don't think I should splurge that much for a first road bike. Probably work up to that. But also I understand how much of a difference a good quality bike with quality gears etc really is over a heavy crappy $300 bike.

Any advice?

Damn, that's a tough ride. I do 5-8 miles a day just to keep my ass from getting too fat. At the end of my meager ride I sometimes feel like I am about to die.

You're a lot skinnier than I remember you being too. Congrats. Seriously. Now don't have that strawberry shake and fuck it all up.

I got one at mile 185 at the Dairy Queen... I figured I was only 15 miles from the finishline, I had to pull in and get a burger and shake!

IT was funny casue there were THOUSANDS of riders passing by Dairy Queen. I was the only rider that stopped and went there. The workers there were in awe.

I told em my body needs this shit. And it really did.

I felt really good after it!

Yeah I looked there last night, but I really don't know what I'm looking for.. Does the brand matter? Is the frame not that important, but get some kind of special gears? Is it overly important to get fitted for the frame? Many manufacturers make 8+ different sizes of frames for road bikes..

Giant? Cervelo? Cannondale? Specialized? Maybe one of these is a better choice for someone just beginning and getting their first road bike.. Noooo idea

I gained wait for this ride. A lot....

Last year when I did the 200 in two days I was light and lost weight. This year I was 15 pounds heavier.

I had to. I had to carboload and really get my glycogen levels up to be able to do this. So I had to eat eat eat and eat. Lots.. Tons of carbs. I was burning them like mad.

I was pushing 190 which is the heaviest ive ever been. But this is the best shape IVE EVER been in.

That's awesome. I should stop by the convenience store when I am on my ride and get my usual can of Monster and some Chex Mix. I mean...the body NEEDS that shit.

Well what kind of riding do you like to do?

If you want to start to train and do organized events/rides a road bike could be good.

Or if you live in the Country or like to ride trails a Moutain Bike is good.

What kind of riding do you like to do? Personally im not a big fan of those who ride Mountain bikes in the city or around town. Back in the college days it seemed everyone on campus had mountain bikes. But they are heavy and bulky. And SLOW......

But they are cheap!

Mr. Money bags!!! Shit mang, those are great bikes but spendy.

For someone starting out or on a budget I suggest you go to a local bike shop. Find out what size you are. Then go online to somewhere like:

bikesdirect.com
performancebicycle.com

and buy one cheap there. Or if you have a Performance Bikes in your city go there. They have bikes for a good price.

Giant? Cervelo? Cannondale? Specialized? Maybe one of these is a better choice for someone just beginning and getting their first road bike.. Noooo idea
Brand isnt important dude. Not for the common person.
Size and Fit of the bike is key.......

You have to go to a local bike shop and hop on some bikes. Tell them you are new and dont even know what size you should be on. They will tell you your size. Thats the key to starting to looking for a bike. Get your SIZE.........

From there you can start looking for a bike from anywhere from online to stores.

Let me know some of the specs on the bikes you look at. I know a lot about em and I can tell you if you are getting a good deal on them or not.

You are right, it wasnt 200 miles. It was 202.4 miles!

Google maps says 174.. But we dont go that route! Thats the interstate freeway on google maps.

We never ride on freeways! We take the backroads and go into all the small towns and Country. Hence 202 miles. Not 174.

Thanks man I'll totally ask when I'm ready and have my sizes and a few models of bike picked out. I want a road bike for sure. My best friend growing up always had several $2k+ mountain bikes, both downhill and cross country, we went all the time..

But I live in the city, and I don't want to drive somewhere to go for a bike ride heh.. So yeah road bike all the way.

And who said it wasn't 200? lolz obviously you don't go point to point like that, that's half retarded :P

YOu can also consider a hybrid bike.

They are a hybrid of a road and mountain bike. They are pretty practicle.

They have better speed than a mountain bike, more like a roadbike.
But they have the upright sitting and handlebars of a mountain bike and seat. So you are more comfrtable than the hunched over handlebars of a roadbike and small seat up your ass a road bike has.

With a hybrid bike you are basically getting more speed and lightness than a montain bike, and more comfort than a road bike.

They are more $$ than your avarage Mountain bike but are cheaper than the avarage roadbike.

I told em my body needs this shit. And it really did.

I felt really good after it!
Reminds me of the time one of my brothers ran his first marathon. Had absolutely no training and stopped about half way through for a cigarette break.

He then finished.

There goes Boneprone pedalling his ass off all over the place again...

Dude, Alaska Airlines has some great rates for flying from Seattle to Portland, especially if you book at least a few weeks in advance.
