hmm been using ubuntu... but this actually looks alot more user friendly that i had though.. actually looks just like ubuntu... im not much of a techie is why i was scared of trying fedora... ill have to give it a run

OpenSuse is my distro of choice, check it out, its the most polished in my opinion.

We have Fedora on all our machines and love it. I highly suggest you also get and use Crossover Office. It is just like Wine but better. We have no problems running Windoz Apps with it.

I have Fedora core 6. I downloaded 9 but I haven't seen any reason to upgrade.

I like fedora... It is quick and stable and I can ssh into my machine from anywhere...

I used redhat before Fedora. It had an rpm based system too. Using rpm's can sometimes get hairy. Sometimes you can't update software because everything is linked together and once you start installing source code things get out of whack because the rpm system won't recognize the source code as being installed. You pretty much have to stick to using the "yum" command to install updates if you don't want to screw things up. I haven't done that and I've managed to keep things somewhat straight. I am actually surprised I've avoided a upgrading from FC6 for all these years.

I tried Fedora a long time ago, and I still support it as a server for some folks, but I've been a Debian base guy until late. I tried, and fell for openSUSE. It's Linux - with bugfixes! Novell's OpenOffice has better, and more input filters; their gimp is a little bit cleaned up; their KDE desktop has custom addons and integrations.

It's nummy.

it's all matter of opinion.. I like ubuntu quite a bit on the desktop.. for a server I'll probably always stick to FreeBSD though

Fedora's are great for personal computing but I have to give a credit to FreeBSD when it comes to security for servers.
I usually recommend FreeBSD to all my clients. BTW, Fedora kicks ass for a personal use.

I think it can be a good distro for a server but it has to be set up correctly. The noncustomized installations bloat the system way too much for a server. My machine is for personal use but it's not too bloated because it is older. It seems like with each upgrade, there is more bloat but at the same time, computers get more powerful. Mine is a p4 1.3ghz so it can't handle all the extras. It also can't handle windows

I run an FTP, ssh, and apache. I use it for development, web browsing, network monitoring... things like that.

I just installed CentOS 5.2 in VMWare last night. Want to learn more about server admin stuff so thought it would be good to learn that way.

We started off using OS' like Fedora and FreeBSD, but CentOS seems to be the best . . . . at least for most of our needs.

I have tried all the linux/gui and unix/gui distros I could get my hands on... and for some reason these companies are always having issues around proper and easy support of 3d graphic cards... there were a few distros of ubuntu that allowed me to setup the 3d, however, for some reason the next version that came out of the distro messed up a simple install... I think the best distros are: Fedora, Suse and Ubuntu because they have a nice clean layout and installing programs for the most part is easy... however, I wish the companies would not keep messing with the video setup... it should not be impossible to just get a graphic driver and the two main graphic card companies like nvidia and ati to install at a 100% on their distros... yet year after year these companies allow for users to have issues... I am not a windows fan, however, if you install a program it will run... with linux/gui and or unix/gui this is not the case... also what happens if you loose your internet connection and you need a file only found online to install a much needed app or game ????

Yup. I use Fedora 8 x86_64.

Fedora 9 still has some issues on 64 bit.

Using it as my desktop.
