Why does Windows Media Player SUCK so much?

Every time I try to install this fucking crap, it NEVER works right. EVER. And it's always something different..... it's either full of fuckin' errors and won't play at all, or it does some bizarre shit like go full screen and makes itself permanent to the point that the Big Red Power Button is needed......

what a fuckin' usless piece of shitty software!

I know - I still have it on my desktop... Everything else works fine, but Media Player always craps out.

Win 2k runs much better on my laptop. Maybe I'll get off my ass one of these days and upgrade the desktop OS.

6.4something was the only version of WMP I ever got to run for longer than 2 minutes on my win98 comp.

anyway, go for win xp and WMP 8. no problems at all

it might have to do with what else you have installed on your system - on your system it should go smooth. The only problem I could see would be installing the codecs and such...

the only thing I've been able to make work is to uninstall that version 7 junk and let the system default to it's original ver 2.1 or whatever it is that comes with the OS.....

no.... not gonna be using XP anytime in the near future. 2k Pro will be my OS of choice for a long time comin'.

I considered that too, but I tried to install it on another machine here that was a fresh format and totally clean install of 2k.... no 3rd party software installed whatsoever.... it still wouldn't work.

I have similar problems, 99% of the time, windows media player freezes my computer within 30 seconds, the other 1% of the time, it will be within 10 minutes. I talked to a friend of mine, and he has heard of several other ppl with the problem, and the only things in common are the abit motherboard and win2k. Don't think those two like each other :> Easy solution, download real one player (it's free), go to search for updates, click on drivers, install the windows media compatability beta stuff. It seems to work perfectly for me.

Depending on the type of files and the date you can use the standard , MWP that is on the win98 cd. if a file plays and says error downloading codec, ignor that , go to a codec site and download. such as download.com, get divx pro.5.0 and you should be fine. also there is a new version out for WMP it is version 9.0(it is a replica of what is on XP ) or the next version up from that.
