Why does Windows Media Player SUCK so much?

Every time I try to install this fucking crap, it NEVER works right. EVER. And it's always something different..... it's either full of fuckin' errors and won't play at all, or it does some bizarre shit like go full screen and makes itself permanent to the point that the Big Red Power Button is needed......

what a fuckin' usless piece of shitty software!

AzteK 10-22-2002 11:59 AM

what version are you trying to install?

eru 10-22-2002 12:00 PM

Just use 6.4 (mplayer2.exe)

TeraBabes 10-22-2002 12:00 PM

It is a complete Piece of Shit. Whenever I try to use 7.0 (or whatever the latest version is) with Win 98, my whole pc freezes...

DarkJedi 10-22-2002 12:01 PM

i dont know, i've never had problems with it. I actually like it :-)

maybe you got an old comp or some hardware problems...or win 3.11 ?

I know - I still have it on my desktop... Everything else works fine, but Media Player always craps out.

Win 2k runs much better on my laptop. Maybe I'll get off my ass one of these days and upgrade the desktop OS.

Amputate Your Head 10-22-2002 12:07 PM

and I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled this shit at least 2 dozen times... every time it does something else weird.... everything but operate normally.

you should! I'm NEVER going back

Brian911 10-22-2002 12:11 PM

thats cause ver7 is a piece of shit.
6.4something was the only version of WMP I ever got to run for longer than 2 minutes on my win98 comp.

anyway, go for win xp and WMP 8. no problems at all

it might have to do with what else you have installed on your system - on your system it should go smooth. The only problem I could see would be installing the codecs and such...

quiet 10-22-2002 12:12 PM

that's cause windoze is a piece of shit

the only thing I've been able to make work is to uninstall that version 7 junk and let the system default to it's original ver 2.1 or whatever it is that comes with the OS.....

no.... not gonna be using XP anytime in the near future. 2k Pro will be my OS of choice for a long time comin'. :winkwink:

I considered that too, but I tried to install it on another machine here that was a fresh format and totally clean install of 2k.... no 3rd party software installed whatsoever.... it still wouldn't work.

Theres your problem!!

New Software with one of the Buggiest Operating Systems ever.
98 Sucks Ass!

Go for 2000! I have no problems!

Watching DIVX through Windows Media Player on my TV with DVD Quality.
I don't think Windows Media Sucks!

ZoiNk 10-22-2002 12:18 PM

I have similar problems, 99% of the time, windows media player freezes my computer within 30 seconds, the other 1% of the time, it will be within 10 minutes. I talked to a friend of mine, and he has heard of several other ppl with the problem, and the only things in common are the abit motherboard and win2k. Don't think those two like each other :> Easy solution, download real one player (it's free), go to search for updates, click on drivers, install the windows media compatability beta stuff. It seems to work perfectly for me.

Krome 10-22-2002 12:57 PM

theking 10-22-2002 01:39 PM

Pornwolf 10-22-2002 03:40 PM

I can't even read that foreign language the guy in the post above me wrote in. Something about Apples and Quicken or something blah blah blah.

:winkwink:

Amp, get Winamp.

Tek-Sup-Port 10-22-2002 05:19 PM

Depending on the type of files and the date you can use the standard , MWP that is on the win98 cd. if a file plays and says error downloading codec, ignor that , go to a codec site and download. such as download.com, get divx pro.5.0 and you should be fine. also there is a new version out for WMP it is version 9.0(it is a replica of what is on XP ) or the next version up from that.
