They REALLY need to pass that cell phone law in the redneck hell I live in. I swear, putting a cellphone and a car in a redneck's hands at the same time is nothing but a recipe for total disaster.

Everytime I leave the house I dodge at least 10 rednecks trying to figure out how the hell to keep their cars on the road while taking those all important calls that can't wait..... probably where they are all going to meet to party that night, or who they are going to beat up. lmao

I rarely see anyone who is on the cell phone getting into an accident.

I also believe that the ratio of being on the phone to not being on the phone is probably pretty close to being the same.

Some people just cannot drive for shit.

I for one agree with this new cell phone rule. I can't tell you how many close calls I've had because someone was "trying" to drive a car while having a conversation on the phone. Some people just don't have enough brain to do both at the same time.

I have an idea for a new law though.......
For each new law that needs to be passed, government must remove five others from the books.

Wouldn't that start to put an importance to things?

* Carpool lane ? 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/08 (The $271 posted on the highway is out-dated)
Don?t do it again because 2nd time is going to be double. 3rd time, triple, and 4th time license suspended.
* Incorrect lane change ? $380. Don?t cross the lane on solid lines or at intersections.
* Block intersection ? $485
* Driving on the shoulder ? $450
* Cell phone use in the construction zone. ? Double fine (2 times $285) as of 07/01/08.
* All Cell phones must be ?hands free? while driving Fine is $285.
* Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts ?- both passengers and
drivers get tickets
* Speeders ? allowance only drive 3 miles above the limit.

* DUI (Driving Under Influence of drug or alcohol) = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)
* teens to put down all cell phones and other electronic devices while driving. The new law prohibits drivers under age 18 from using any cell phone or other ?mobile-service device? while driving, even if it is equipped with a hands-free device.
The term ?mobile-service device? includes, but isn?t limited to, a broadband personal-communication device, specialized mobile radio device, handheld device or laptop computer with mobile-data access, pager, and two-way messaging device. Teen drivers ticketed for a violation will be subject to a fine of at least $70 (base fine plus penalties) for a first offense and at least $175 (base fine plus penalties) for subsequent offenses. Unlike the ban on handheld cell phones, a law enforcement officer may cite a teen for a suspected violation of this law only in connection with another suspected driving offense.
Arnt quite a few of those either exagerated or out right fake? Seriously do you think the state would say you can drive any speed over the speed limit at all? If it is posted 65 and your driving 66 thats illegal, end of story.

Not at all. Each new law passed would have to "deserve" it's place.

And if you think there is any lack of stupid laws... check out http://www.dumblaws.com/

Is there really a difference though if the guy is distracted due to yapping on the phone with his hand up to his ear or with a bluetooth earpiece in? I think the bottom line is that he/she is STILL distracted by being on the phone period and that is where the dangers sits.

what else they can squeeze in to make money!!
It's obvious those laws are not for safety or anthing close to that --> $1000 for carpool!!
Who's used to drive using one hand on the steering wheels, whether he's talking on the phone or handsfree, is still going to put 1 hand on the steering wheels.
So many smart people in our government!!

It doesnt matter if it's handsfree or not, talking on a phone is not something any driver should do... it has nothing to do if the phone is in your hand or not.. it's your mind which is somewhere else than focusing on the traffic while you're on the phone

Arizona needs these laws here. We have the worst damn drivers I have ever seen. They would be nailing so many people here for the incorrect lane change.

At least someone is trying to do something about idiot drivers. Now we need to have the same laws here in Phoenix.

Good for California

Could not agree more. AZ in general has shitty drivers. I saw a guy driving in his car the other day on the cell phone, eating a taco and trying to steer at the same time. He almost hit another car while drifting into another lane.

Wow, that's pretty good though really. No one needs to be talking or texting while they are driving. Hands free is the smart way to be

No, the part where it was discovered that most of those reports were false.

yes, i was a cop for 5 years. i know the law.

eating is a distraction.

putting on makeup is a distraction.

they are not illegal actions, they are distractions which can cause you to operate a vehicle unsafely. Should you be deemed "unsafe" the officer may pull you over and cite you, or warn you at his/her discretion.

texting IS NOT illegal, talking on the phone is. that is the difference. now, it remains to be seen if someone can safely text and drive. if you do not appear to be "unsafe" you can legally text and drive.

that is the law.

i don't agree with it and think texting is 100 times more dangerous, but it is not illegal.

I fully agree with you. If you are not on the defensive here, you could easily get run over. How about these nut jobs racing down the freeway anywhere between 90 and 130 MPH? Those guys need to lose their privileges to drive with a hefty fine.

And then we have the ones that like to assume the lazy boy recliner position in their front seat while talking on the phone or texting.
I have a hard enough time texting when I am sitting in a chair: I don't see how they can do it while driving.

DUI (Driving Under Influence of drug or alcohol) = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

that's tough
