have all the TLDs you want, it doesnt change the fact that the people and businesses that own te copyrights still wield the power.

Eventually, with the death of the browser, TLDs will become meaningliess, the ".com" or ".anything" will just be an extension (literally) of the overall brand. The value of generic non-branded URLs will diminish with time as the long tail power of the net is realized and brands will dominante all of economics.

For example, No joe-blow is going to be able sell .ebay domains, only Ebay will ever be able to own .ebay.

I just realized that ICANN has taxation powers - opening up TLDs means that copyright/trademark holders will basically have to fork over $X to protect their brands. So, Ebay HAS to buy the rights to .ebay, and it's the only company that can even do so. It's basically an internet tax on corporations.
