DVD ripping question
I'm trying to rip DVDs to convert them to another format, and they all come out with that small problem area at the bottom of the screen, where the video is out of synch.
Does anyone know if there's some way to avoid that while ripping, without having to rip in a bigger size than necessary and then manually re-crunching it to remove it? (I'm using Im TOO DVD Ripper 4.) |

Try CloneDVD mobile. Although it says mobile it will rip to DivX, XviD, AVI, MP4, WMV and of course, formats for mobile devices. I use it to create WMV files (in 720 x 480 format) from DVDs. You get the full version for 21 days at no cost.

I use River Past Cleaner Pro - but never knew it could rip DVDs. I see how it can rip the video (the VOB file), but not the video and audio DVD into one file - how do you do that?

Don't think that's it - it's a produced DVD and when I converted it to AVI it still had the problem - so I get the problem even when I'm converting to a non-compressed format.

Could it be an aspect ratio problem? Converting from 4:3 to 3:2?

Maybe you have bad codecs installed on the machine?
Have you tried DvdShrink? |

rip the entire dvd to a .VOB,(i recommend DVD Decrypter) then change the extension of the file to .MPG and it will have both audio and video. a VOB is simply a container file, just like a MPG file. ;)
never go UP in bitrate, that wont do anything but screw up your files. what format are you going to, as some software is better for moving to some formats over others. |

The line probably has to do with interlacing, btw. are you planning to play it on a computer or tv?
just set a crop to remove a few pixels off both the side and the bottom. thats the simple way. you should do both(a side(or both) and the bottom) to maintain aspect ratio, btw. |

Don't think it's codecs, and I've tried three diff recommended programs and they all do the same thing.

![]() - Never thought about the .VOB thing, that's worth a try. - I'm using default bitrates on the various ripping programs, but they're all set fairly low - the latest one I tried defaulted to 600. - Trying to go to .WMV. - Have tried at least one ripping program with deinterlace option, but still get the same problem. It's for playing on users' computer - on a VOD site. - Actually, that was my original question lol - if there was a way to crop and rip at the same time without having to rip and then re-crunch in order to crop, and I had to find a program that would do that. So far I've tried one, and I guess because it was so intensive a task (crop and rip a 2 hour DVD) I got the bsod ![]() |

as already said, just crop and resize according to your final aspect ratio. I would go 720 x 480, select no letterbox, also use at least a 2500 - 3000 kbs bit rate for a final vid.
Another option, you can go higher bitrate like 8000 kbs sec if you want to keep same quality as the an original DVD and then use that as a (unwatermarked) master file and batch all your other member vids formats from this file. It's good to keep this higher bit rate (unwatermarked) master for making trailers and such also. |
