Bring on $5/gal

Man traffic was great today. Seems to be less and less people on the interstate it's great. Doesn't seem to effect local traffic so much just yet, but damn I-95 was a nice drive today. I say bring on $5/gal gas if it's gonna keep the roads clear.

a full tank of premuim gas last me an entire month. I get about 460miles on a full tank @ $4.35, cost $64 last time I gased up.

p.s. i'm self employed (work from home), and the mall, shopping, entertainment, etc. is all within 0-3miles from my house.

The economy has problems that reach much farther than the price of a gal of gas. The economy will adjust and be fine once the other problems get sorted out.

I saw an article last week that said public transportation usein major cities is up like 7%. Which in itself is a good thing, but since it was never planned or budgeted for, is causing problems.

Our rail system sucks ass for public transpo. Our bus systems also suck major anal leakage. According to the route schedules at my near bus stop. If I left at 6am I could get to the downtown hub at 7:30 and wait 15 minutes for a transfer. From there it would be another hour to reach the cities real work area (mostly service industry) which places it at 8:45 now. If I do not have to be somewhere by 9am and it is not within a quarter to a half mile max I would be screwed. But hey it only took nearly 3 hours to get somewhere a car would take you in 20 minutes. Then hopefully you get off by 4pm as the last bus comes near us at 7pm.

That's what I'm getting at.. $5/gal gas is the only thing that is going to force this country into change. Americans in general have always been very wasteful and it's time we clean up our act.

Everyone wants to cry about Global Warming this or that but how many of them actually do anything to help stop it? $5/gal gas forces people to make change and it will be for the better in the long run.

With $5/gal gas it forces people to drive less and will force the auto makers to build more fuel efficient cars. Look at GM they just shut down 3 SUV plants this week. While it sucks for those out of a job it also is proof that the only thing that was going to make Americans buy fuel efficient cars was high gas prices.

Used to be every Tom, Dick and Hairy was driving a H2, Dodge Hemi or some other big ass truck or car that got shit mileage but looked cool. Did 90% of these people actually need anything like that? Of course not but they didn't care because gas was cheap.

How many H2's and Dodge Hemi's do you see driving around today?

If we still had $1.50 gas GM and the other American auto companies would be more than happy to continue to pump out 12mpg cars and trucks for the next 15 years. Now they are being forced to do what they should have already been doing.

People will also end up sharing rides more often or riding public transportation. Expensive fuel is the only thing that could have forced this change. We could have done it before but we didn't so now we have to.

People need to quit looking at the short term and think how this will help us in the long run. We are being forced off the tit of big oil. Yea it hurts at first but it's for the best long term.

It may be rough times ahead, but these are the types of situations that give birth to innovation. Then those innovators are capped by Big Oil hitmen.
