Wait a little for paypal, you might get your money back. In case they don't give a fuck, go ahead with your bank and initiate chargeback. It work.

Write a formal and polite complain letter to PayPal and eBay. You are protected as a buyer. I hope you can get your money back.

I never buy things over 200? on eBay, just in case. So far I had 3 refunds without problems and only once I lost my 47? I paid.

Good luck... even if PayPal settles on your side, they can only get the money back if the seller has kept the money in HIS PayPal account. Most scammers immediately withdraw the money to prevent this from happening - I learned this the hard war, luckily on a much smaller scale though - the most money I've ever spent on eBay was $55 for a PS2. I just don't trust it enough to make any big purchases.

Yep, I agree 100%, it's all about the feedback. I bought a nice new Dell XPS 1710 laptop from Ebay for $3,100 shipped when at the time, the same laptop configured on Dell's website with tax was $4,500, that's a $1,400 savings for the same exact item.

The seller, of course, had over 1,000 feedback with a 99% positive rating with many other feedbacks left from others whom also had decent feedback and bought laptops from him. In a case like that, I felt pretty safe.

If I was looking to buy a $900 tv, I wouldn't buy from anyone with less than 200 positive feedback points and a 99% positive rating AND see that they also sold other bigger ticketed items to people with decent feedback.

Good luck getting your money back. Hopefully something can be done about it.

That's one thing a lot of people miss. Someone with 200 transactions and 99.9% feedback may have just sold some postcards before putting up that Canon 1 series for only $2000...

I forgot to say Paypal isn't helpful either. Definitely call your credit card company.

That sucks, but if you do a charge back through your credit card company, PayPal may go after your bank account if you have that linked.

Credit Card companies are not as friendly to charge backs as they used to be, so that could take a while aswell. They may credit your account, but if PayPal fights the charge as it was a legit request by you to fund the account, you may not win.

I would suggest you go online, and get a form letter. Their are several form letters online that people have submitted and work in order to get your money back from PayPal. Writing to either PayPal or Your Credit Card company and explaining your situation doesn't seam to work aswell, you need to just be brief and to the point. The more you explain to them, the more they are willing to side with the merchant.

Keep us posted, as to how this turns out.

What the?

I have purchased laptops, computers, office furniture, cigars, humidors, TV's, a refrigerator, car parts, etc from Ebay and in the over 150 items I have purchased I have never been scammed.

I just follow the tips already posted:

Check feedback... make sure the feedback goes FAR back... like a year... Read all last two months looking for a pattern of flaking out...

what he said, call your bank / credit card and charge back right away
that should work.
I received an empty box once, and paypal wouldn't reimburse me as the seller had entered the Shipping infos....

How many feedbacks did that seller have? you checked that out first?

If I were you, I'd give my CC company a call and would charge it back.

You're still better off than my video editor though. He just got scammed for around $200US trying to buy headlamps for his car, but instead of using his credit card, he sent the scammer a wire, so he is fucked.

Hope you get your money back!

Issue a chargeback, the only problem with doing so is after a number of them paypal will actually freeze your account. If you have any money in the paypal account atm I would definitely take it out.

doing a chargeback is the way to go here, but if your want to increase your odds with paypal, file a police report and submit it to paypal.

I'm always confused when I hear ebay buyers talking about having trouble getting their money back from PayPal because it seems like they just return money to people willy nilly. I completely moved away from ebay and paypal after their most recent round of fuckery, but back when I was selling, I had scam buyers who were able to get their money back on shit I DID actually send them. The new rules meant I couldn't even leave them negative feedback when they did this. So basically PayPal/FeeBay just fucks users on both ends.

Good advice. Don't waste your time trying to get eBay/PayPal to give a fuck. Go straight to your credit card company.

First of all feedback does not mean shit, if they have 4000 feedback you still need to do your homework. You can see what they have been selling and how much of it, only takes a few minutes and when your saving a lot of money it is time well spent. People get their accounts jacked so someone with 10K feedback could be a scammer.

Also shoot them an email before the auction ends, tell them your dvd lives near by and wanted to know if he could pick the item up if he gets home in time from his business trip. Does not mean they are scammers if they so no but will help some and you will get to see their reply which should be better english then what I type in here LOL

You can charge back anything. If you do get a package and your sure it is a scam , open it at the post office in front of someone. Do not take it home and then open it.

all paypal does is make sure it is shipped, The scammer send you a box of shit and if he has tracking paypal is fine with it. Mastercard is the way to go for sure. Good tip about pulling the cash from your account so your card gets charged

For everyone saying do a CC chargeback, consider that even though paypal are the middleman they're considered the merchant, which means they cop the fine, CC transaction reversal, and black mark. This should be the very last resort, because there's a good chance your chargeback will be aggressively disputed and/or your paypal account closed.

you are 100% wrong you can chargeback thru your credit card and get your $$$$ back no matter what the seller has in their account.

the problem is most people are not smart enough to use a cc when using paypal

i have had my account frozen due to a chargeback before you can get around it.

idiots at paypal wanted me to return software that was downloaded called them explained the software did not work as advertised and that there was nothing to return since it was just downloaded and i got my account unfrozen.

you are 100% wrong you can chargeback thru your credit card and get your $$$$ back no matter what the seller has in their account.

the problem is most people are not smart enough to use a cc when using paypal
Yeah, but I was referring to PayPal's policies and habits, not how to chargeback a credit card. You're talking about something different - getting the money back via your credit card company. I'm talking about getting it back via PayPal's claim system, which is worth jack shit.

To clarify: LEFT TO THEIR OWN DEVICES and without you initiating a chargeback, my response about how PayPal operates is still valid.

You'll get your money back. Watch out for people like that on ebay, easy money for them if they scam the right people.

File a dispute/claim with paypal and give it a couple days to see if anything happens. Then if you don't get your money back call your card company and do a chargeback. If you end up doing a chargeback realize your paypal account will be "limited" cause they are idiots that could give a fuck less about it's users.
