One of my friends has a couple old Impalas, a 61 and 64 both in good shape, I guess he was going to restore them and does not have the time now..

He asked me to look into selling them for him.. Anyone know a site where you can find out a good starting price ?? I'm going to take a few pics tonight.. Thanks in advance

your only hope really is ebay's completed listings. Any "price guides" simply cannot work due to an insane amount of factors. Try to find something close on ebay and watch that auction.

Ebay motors, you can even list a buy it now price and I am sure that there are a handful of impalas out there so you can get an idea on what they go for

Isn't Kelly's Blue Book pretty much the bible on car values? I'm not sure, but I thought that was the one. If you go to a car dealership, ask them to see the blue book.

Well, I just picked an arbitrary car with arbitrary options and it seems to presume that every 45 year old car is in the same shape.

I am not going to agree that just because a car is a 61 Impala it is worth at least $7k. These prices only apply as dealer rates to sell. No way are they paying that much.

I will stick with Auto Trader.

Although I have used the Auto Trader extensivly in the past and admit that it can be a great resource for finding a used car but it's probably not the best tool to determine the price of a vehicle especially a classic car that people tend to hold on to and are not many up for sale making comparison a bit difficult. Taking into account economic trends, geographic location, weather and environmental concerns, along with many other factors to determine the most accurate price for a vehicle.

The NADA price guide lets you pick the make, model, and year of the vehicle then allows you to choose options such as air conditioning, engine size etc. that were available then gives you a average figure for that vehicle in various conditions such as Low Retail, Average Retail Value, and High Retail.

What needs to be done to them? New floor pans? New trunk pans? Engine rebuild? New carb? Other retinning?

Is the car stock? Where is it from? Has it been garaged or left out in the elements?

All those factor in when pricing a classic car.

You can also find an Impala forum and check the classic section.

If it's in California it will likely sell ASAP as these years/models are popular with the mexicans, gangbangers and lowrider enthusiasts as well as the regular classic car enthusiasts

Your friend isn't going to get anywhere what they're worth at the moment as EVERYONE is selling their "projects" at a loss due to current economy. How do I know? I'm buying the shit out of them. Last month alone:

49' Ford - 351 Windsor, C7, 9" rear, disc brakes, 12 volt conversion, etc - $600
52' Ford - Running Flathead - $800
59' Apache - Non-running, decent body - $150

Etc. My advise to your friend would be to sit on them. Just my worthless .02.
