Which Linux OS do you have installed?

I want to play around with Linux on an old laptop. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I use Fedora almost exclusively... but if you want to just install to learn and play then I'd suggest Ubuntu.

Install (distro here) if you want to learn (same distro here), but, if you want to learn Linux, install Slackware.

We have Fedora installed on out desktop and our lappys. Getting the wireless on this Dell to work was an experience in aggravation, but it works.

If you want something more interesting try Solaris, but I doubt it will run on a laptop.

yup... for home and workstation type use ubuntu is easily the best option out there. Massive support community and out of the box easiest distro to use and just jump into running while otheres have a bit more of a learning curve. Installing and updating software has never been so easy!

My first venture into linux as a windows replacement was RedHat 6.2 so I've been back and forth with windows and linux for what like a decade?

Linux is Linux, it all has a Linux Kernel. The only difference is how packages are maintained, versions, preinstalled packages and custom themes.

Then again, you knew that, because you learned Linux, with Slackware
