Excuse me, but this is not UPI or Reuters, it is an editorial. Ergo: biased, incomplete, one-sided.

* Hell, not even an editor . . . a columnist.

Tony. Yes, the Washington Post is a newspaper, and has been for a long time.

If you read a "news" article it will usually be prefaced with the source (ie: AP, UPI or Reuters). This is in the blog section (look at the URL), and is By Dana Milbank.

Yes, I am sure a resolution was about to be passed. Yes, I am sure some Republican decided to fuck with him because he could. Yeah, mom and apple pie are two topics that you should probably side with.

The bill wasn't for shit. Mothers did not lose anything besides a page 10 mention as filler in some local rag. And they could all use it in future campaigns.

The guy is a blogger. Accuracy and thoroughness are not mandatory and probably don't get as many views.

Whereas Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of each May;

Whereas the first official Mother's Day was observed on May 10, 1908, in Grafton, West Virginia, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania;

Whereas 2008 is the 100th anniversary of the first official Mother's Day observation;

Whereas in 1908, Elmer Burkett, a U.S. senator from Nebraska, proposed making Mother's Day a national holiday;

Whereas in 1914, Congress passed a resolution designating the second Sunday of May as Mother's Day;

Whereas it is estimated that there are more than 82,000,000 mothers in the United States;

Whereas mothers have made immeasurable contributions toward building strong families, thriving communities, and ultimately a strong Nation;

Whereas the services rendered to the children of the United States by their mothers have strengthened and inspired the Nation throughout its history;

Whereas we honor ourselves and mothers in the United States when we revere and emphasize the importance of the role of the home and family as the true foundation of the Nation;

Whereas mothers continue to rise to the challenge of raising their families with love, understanding, and compassion, while overcoming the challenges of modern society; and

Whereas May 11, 2008 is recognized as Mother's Day: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives celebrates the role of mothers in the United States and supports the goals and ideals of Mother's Day.

Okay, sorry for the delay, I had to watch the clip. I only have three questions:

1. Did you watch it?

2. What exactly are you opposed to?
2a) What is Dana Milbank's point?

3. Am I reading you wrong and you actually support the Republican action?

Thank you for affirming my earlier comment about political bloggers.

Did you read the last word of your link?

Just a fluff piece, IMO. Looks like someone had a slow day and needed some filler. Doesn't say anything. Nothing was passed or rejected. Reminds me of how freaking boring CSPAN is - I think they spend most of their time jawing just to hear themselves talk.

*yawn*

Wait. You're a mother. Aren't you upset at the Republicans for insisting upon a roll call?

It's called wasting time. The bill is meaningless and was only brought forward so the GOP could waste time. They first voted for it, then used more "clock time" to do a procedural tactics to vote against it. The GOP is acting like a 2 year old child because they can't get their way. So instead of trying to work with the majority, they do useless crap like this to waste time.

I think you missed the entire point behind the column and the article. It was a tongue and check approach at showing you how useless they have become. Remember your tax dollars are being wasted while they do this kind of useless BS.

Next time you wonder why nothing gets done by your govt, that actualy helps you.. look back to this and understand why.

I think it's is a fluff piece but really does speak to a larger problem we have in Congress and that is "wastng time". Both parties do it... but wtf.

Exactly, both parties do it and have been for years.

THIS is why it always amazes me that people only seem to be interested in politics when there's a presidential election. VOTE IN YOUR LOCAL ELECTION. Even if it's just for the freaking county commissioner or the sheriff.

Not only that but

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ken.) told the Wall Street Journal
?When I woke up after the election in November 2006,? Mr. McConnell says, ?I realized I was going to be the Republican leader and not the majority leader. That was the bad news.? The one-time county judge continues: ?The good news is that 49 is not a bad number in a body that requires 60. The United States Senate is the only legislative body in the world where a majority is not enough.?
The Senate Republicans have blocked more bills in just 2007 than any previous minority blocked in any two-year span in congressional history.

Then Bush call the Dems a do nothing congress.
