Using TAGS effectively in your blog....
I have built my blog from scratch using a sensible approach of giving the surfer something to see and read. I usually post a 1 to 2 minute clip of a scene, write about the performers, gossip, and about how much the site updates. The formula has been working about three years and traffic is steadily climbing. I don't skim my traffic so it is pretty much all my own. Just recently I decided to add "TAGS" to my blog.
Are TAGS beneficial? How does Google look at TAGS? Should I use a TAG cloud? Is there a proper way to use TAGS? Anyway, any imput would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, there must be something good about TAGS because Google treats them nice if they are focused on some keywords like performer's name.
I have a large database with performer's name that date back a few years. All I have to do is add the TAGS to my old post. I think it would take some time to do but the long term benefits will pay off especially in the SEO department.

I Noindex/Nofollow my *categories/search/page/* pages, and i use tags to break down and basically turn the tag pages into doorway pages which creates nice relevant, themed navigation (way more thorough and usable then categories) AND spidering. My site.com/tags/... becomes one of the few urls that are indexed on my wordpress, I allow the index.php, the tag pages, and the single post pages to be indexed and cached.
This method I like to use, I show only exerpts on the tag pages so that its not just big blocks of the entire post (dup content), and that also ensures the whole text will only be seen on the one page, the single post page. I also don't generally link to each post on the index sidebar, but let my link weight or juice only pass through tags and singleposts. Its basically set up to push the power to my tag pages and to continually bounce between the singlepages and tags. Hope you get what I'm sayin..lol

Oh, and to answer the question, google does love tags, just as long as they aren't the same as your categories.
By pure definition of what a tag is, they would have to love them. It breaks the site down into relevant niches and links into relevant unique content about that theme or niche. And those said pages also link back to the tag, but also to other relevant tags to that post. Its gold really.
