I use canon, simply because it was the best deal going at the time. what it really comes down to is the lens, and the settings your using. just because you can use F2.8 doesn't mean it will look the best for what your doing.
my advice would be try handling both types and see which feels nicer to you... remember you will be holding it! another good point is use what your friends/peers use. this way you can ask them about their lenses and other equipment, and try it for yourself/borrow from them. |

I have said it a million times....if you are shooting in a clean environment like a studio either one is fine.
If you shoot in a harsh environment Nikon is the only choice. Theres a reason photojournalists world wide swear by Nikon. I once shot in Red Rock Canyon on a breezy day in sept....(read HOT wind) we had a Nikon D-100 a sony DX1000 and a Cannon XL1 and a Canon high end D35 (dont recall the model) Both the Canons got sand in them from the wind and died Both the Nikon and the Sony still work to this day

Believe me I have shot a whole buncha cameras in way worse environments than a walk in the park through red rock. Nikon used to own the journalism biz until Canon came out with a little white thing called a 600 mil lens and that was the deth knell of Nikon's supremacy. When it comes down to this biz, its up to you which camera you choose. I prefer Canon L series glass and Canon is backward compatible with its lenses. Nikon is not. They toss in inaccessible features to upsell their new lenses. That is a bit of an issue, but not a deal breaker. |
