creating a usb device like this is actually pretty easy...
use a U3 key (for the automatic start), download all relevant tools from http://www.nirsoft.net/ and run them all in a batch file ...
that's it...

Aslong as the tools are no special super technology that in the wrong hands could screw people over.

Than I am ok with it.

Its not that what that USB is made off, smart asses. Its about traditional screwing done by microsoft, in one or another way.

I'd not wonder if someday microsoft embeds a spying application within windows, which can be activated remotely by some officials and claims made that this is to keep internet safe.

duh!

What really surprises me is that they are giving it to law agencies for free. That's not very Microsoft of them.

Sounds like search tools for dummies who can't do things manually.

Just wait until a future version of the Patriot Act allows the secret search of any computer connected to the internet for petty reasons. It's only a matter of easing society into such legislation. A little Patriot Act here and there until it all comes together.

Webcams will be turned on to check if that physical injury insurance claim is legit, or maybe to see if you are harboring a fugitive. Files will be copied from businesses before they are notified of a tax audit. Search historical assassination attempts using the wrong keywords, you will be considered a potential assassin. There are so many possibilities.

Keep in mind, that if they can build it, someone will or already has beaten it. and that info is usually put out there for free.

another reason to go linux or use external hard drive to save information
then again as long as you have no problems with law enforcment and didn't do anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.

None of them are real possibilities, simple things like a nat router are good enough to foil any such remote attempt.

This is a typical, done nothing whatsoever, getting the credit deals that ms is so good at.

Yeah things are ass backwards in the law enforcement areas already.

Did you all see the news piece last night about a man who took his 7 year old to a baseball game? Get this.

He goes to the concession stand, gets himself a beer. See's on the menu "mikes lemonade", so he asks his son if he wants some lemonade and he buys him some lemonade. A cop asks him, "are you giving that to your son? Do you realise it's got alcohol in it?" and the guy says "no I didnt!".

Cutting long story short, child protective services REMOVED HIS SON FROM HIS AND HIS WIFES HOME to INVESTIGATE!!!! They allow the wife to bring the son home from the FOSTER HOME 2 days later, but made the husband stay in a hotel room for 2 weeks before he was allowed back into his own home!!

100% FUBAR!

So yeah, dont think these jokes about using your webcam to incriminate you is too far fetched. Shit like what happened to that man and his child from an innocent mistake on ORDERING a drink (nobody ever drank anything) is fucking scary. Stone cold. No common sense anymore these days. Absolutely none.

Hmmm, maybe if you read to the end of the article you would have seen the part where it says, "Smith acknowledged Microsoft's efforts are not purely altruistic. It benefits from selling collaboration software and other technology to law-enforcement agencies, just like everybody else, he said."

True story. I was in Finland and asked for a root beer. The waiter replied, sorry we only have Finnish beers.

Exactly. They should make them fire up Limewire and search for it, like the rest of us.
