Sony Vegas 8 Help!

I've been trying to add a watermark to a video project but haven't been successful as the watermark only comes up during the transitions. Help!

You need to add a new video track on top of your primary video track.

Sounds like you have it on the main track instead of above it, hence it's coming in to view as your primary video is fading in and out.

Insert a new video trak OVER your primary, and drag your watermark to that track.

Also, make sure you're using a transparent image (psd, gif, or png), other wise you'll not be able to see to the primary video "layer".

Thanks. I'm new to SV8, but I've been learning it quickly. And yes, the watermark image is on a transparent background and I saved it as a .png, that much I am aware of.

Thanks for the help. Do you have ICQ?

In the top menu...

Insert > Video Track

This will put a new track on TOP of your exhisting track. You have to put your logo file on the new track. Doing so is like working with a layer in Photoshop.

So after you've inserted a new blank track, drag your log filr to the new track, it will put it ABOVE your primary video track.

I never recommend adding a watermark to the video in the editing app itself (Vegas, Premiere Pro etc) if you are going to encode to the final delivery format (WMV, QT etc) in a 3rd party app, because you are resizing and compressing the watermark along with video that way. I always suggest exporting the edited movie as a full size AVI and then bringing that into your video encoding app and adding your watermark as a png there at the exact size of the final output. That's a pretty picky little point, but I think it helps keep it super sharp and crisp, plus it cuts way down on rendering time for the movie, unless you are just exporting to one and only one end user format right from Vegas.

That's a very good point. I just tried entering my png file as an overlay on Flix Pro and it distorts the coloring. Is that common?

complex watermarks will increase the final size on a 'for-the-webs' compressed video.

++ for Vegas. That program handles almost anything you lay on the timeline. Long ago I ditched Premiere and FCP for vegas ;) best ever.
