I believe that AP outsources its "reporting" to India now.

Many, many years and several careers ago, a writer I fired ended up at the AP.
I called a friend at the AP to ask how that could have happened.
His response:
"You have to understand, we pay writers less than almost everyone else. So we have to hire people who are competent.....but just barely."
