http://www.kayak.com

http://www.travelocity.com

http://www.orbitz.com

http://www.cheaptickets.com

I think they all use the same database, so you probably won't find too much difference between the engines.

Within Europe? http://www.skyscanner.net

I use expedia.com for all my travels and I travel A LOT.

They never let me down.

If it's the cheapest I don't know but it sure is cheaper then using a European service I can tell you that much.

Usually if you use a site like Expedia to find a great price, you can book the same flight directly with the airline, minus the $5 fee that Expedia charges.

Yes, 5 bucks.

that's probably true but I like to have all my stuff centralized in one admin rather then to deal with 10 different airlines.

also for me that regularly buy flights for others, Expedia works out great as I can manage all of it from there for a fair price without having to deal with ... as I said ... 10 different airlines.

Expedia may not be the cheapest but if you're not concerned about $5 back or forth it sure does the trick
