Sony XDCAM 1

Because it can shoot true HD 1920 x 1080 p, it has a high quality lens with proper focus and zoom controls... capable of recording good lighting...

As video destroyed the film industry so new HD will destroy crap video....

In the hands of good camera people beautiful images will again be possible....

I have been looking at the Canon XH A1 High Definition Camcorder 20X Optical Zoom 1/3" 3 x CCD 1.67MP 2.8" 207K....but am still debating this big jump and the price.

My friend uses a Sony and swears by it.

I prefer sony because I use sony software to edit. I've had 5-6 different sony's over the years. and one small canon that I used as a deck and only shot with once. now I have the hdv s11 and the hdv z7u (not sure about the exact model numbers) -bmb

I just had an opportunity to get something like this at a very good price and it's still available, but.....I am not familiar with this camcorder at all. To me it appears to be bulky or cumbersome and might even be a bit heavy. Anyone have any experience with this model?

its older but a great camera. To me good lighting and sound and the scene being really hot are more important than hd.

When i shoot HD i use canon A1.. I feel for my style and its low light capability, its the best. The small veiw finder is the only draw back. (i only use the veiw finder for framing).

For SD i use the sony vx2100. (old faith full)

Why 2 cameras?? I rather switch camera when i move from HD to SD because there will never be a mistake on what i am shooting.. (if u bounce from HD and SD and back again, you know what i am talking about).

Those same crappy cameramen who shot shitty video are now shooting absolute SHIT in HD with poor lighting. Now the shit looks even worse than ever.

Though I will say that in the hands of someone talented, it does look amazing. However, I don't like to see my porn in that much detail. I prefer not to see where a model had warts burned off her cunt.

That's what I use. That thing is a work horse and takes a beating. Until the day I am FORCED to move to HD, I will use the vx2100.

BTW... you dip shits shooting trannys in HD truly have shit for brains. Nobody wants to see that much detail on a shemales body. Jacked up legs, body hair, 5 o'clock shadows. Just too much nasty shit that HD allows you to see. Ya'll are too caught up in the technology of it all.

Quoted for truth.

Unless a model is PERFECT with FLAWLESS skin, she doesn't need to be shot in HD.

You guys still shoot in SD? I haven't filmed anything in SD in a couple of years. You just need hot models, good makeup and great lighting.

Panasonic AG DVX 100B Gonna give it a few more months to see how HD shakes out and how the pricing moves on it. Since I only shoot for claudia-marie.com and sales are phenomenal I don't have to move too quickly on it. I think the best investment I just made is the kino lights that will be arriving today when the ups truck gets here.

for HDV i use sony a1u, it is pretty decent, you can shoot both sd and hdv, sound is very good with the xlr supplied mics.
only issue i have had is the focus tends to shift alot in auto mode, but i probably just need to spend some more time with it. it is born with widest angle of 40mm so i have two different wideangle lenses for it.
For regular SD, i use a canon gl2, works great...just got it back from canon for a cleaning and update, tune up etc , cost me $250.. great service.

HDV gets a bad rap for clarity and skanks etc. to be real honest I haven't seen any of those issues with the HDV we've been shooting.

on the Panisonic, the file size is 1 gig per minute. if you don't mind that pick up the HDV redshoe is selling. great cam. great price. used it a few times myself.

the sony's shoot a compressed file 'm2t' which is much smaller however it's good enough for web based clients. it's like 30 min at 8 gig or something.

if I was going to shoot dvd and TV stuff I would use a pro camera. those systems are about 25K. real overkill for blowjobs.

hit redshoe with an email and maybe he can show you some samples after the big ass render is done. that's another issue with HDV, the render time. with a quad core it's about 11 min for 1 min I think. don't even waste time with anything less than a quad with 4-8 gig of ram.

and I think you can render 2-3 instances at a time with no increase of processing time.

Kinos are the best. Which did you get? I have two four-foot four banks. Use 5500K (daylight) bulbs in them, you will love the light quality and how cool they are!

we will get 2 Sony V1E (V1U = NTSC) with the harddrives probably next month. records simultaniously on tape and hd - so you still have a tape backup but no time to waste on capturing anymore

and i have no problems with dealing with HDV - i can even edit and encode on my fairly mediocre laptop. and the filesize is the same as DV AVI

Got the diva set so I can travel with them on airplanes. The carrying case looks real cool. And hell yeah I got the 5500k bulbs. I can't stand the damn yellow light from the lower frequencies. I'm using flo's already and they are 5600k Love that "perfect" light they put out. But I'm real excited about using THE flourescent light. Unfortunately I have a shoot to do tomorrow morning and the damn things aren't gonna arrive until tomorrow afternoon. Damn it, I thought they would be here today but I checked tracking and it won't be until tomorrow. But then I'm doing 5 more shoots this weekend so I WILL get to use them.

as you may recall i was looking at this camera as it produces great video, but the major down side for me was the large files and no way of recording onto tape, only flash or hdd.
meantime panasonic is coming out with a new version of this cam later this year which will record HDV onto tape as well as flash/hdd.

I have a set of Divas for travel. I know everyone jocks kinos but to be honest, when I white balance manually, I don't see a difference between my kinos and my lowel rifa lights. Do you really think they make that much of a difference at the end of the day?

I mostly shoot at night I will add so I don't mix light sources from outside with what is going on inside.

Why would you film mostly at night DWB, just personal preference? Or are you tin foiling the windows and filming in secret after hours to keep nosy neighbors from noticing your illegal third world porn shoots going on, he he?

I own not only the two four-foot four bank Kinos, but I also own a 1000-watt Riffa light and 500 watt Riffa light. I have Tunsgten bulbs in them but I cover them with CTB filters to match the daylight color temp. of the Kinos. I think they can *only* take tungsten bulbs, but I haven't checked the specs in along time. If that is the case, and you are also using tungsten bulbs, then absolutely there is a huge difference in the light color and light quality. It is noticeable even to consumers, even if they can't tell specifically why. It's a stylistic thing and also a practical thing as I like to use natural lights from windows and skylights. Also if you take stills in between positions while filming, the flash on the camera matches daylight better than the orangeish tungsten light and that keeps your photos from getting messed up with mixed light sources and looking bad.

I purchased a diva 200 kit a while back from B&H but returned it because it just didn't throw enough light compared to my big four-foot four banks.

I'd say 90% happens at night for a few reasons. One, you hit the nail on the head about secret third world shoots. Two, the hookers sleep all day so if you make them show up in the day time, the performance suffers and they look like shit. Three, the GOOD salons and make up artists here are impossible to get before 4pm. So after they hit the salon at 4, dressed by 5 - 6, pretty girl shots taken, it's an easy 7 - 8pm and the sun is on it's way down or already down. It's a hard knock life. lol

I don't mix the lights. I stopped using the Kinoflos and have only been using the rifas (yes, tungsten only), but I can't see a difference with my eye. Perhaps if I shot in HD I would?

Trannys are usually pretty nasty in HD so I'm still shooting on a vx2100. I just don't see the difference. But then again, it could be my eyes.

I never mix light sources. I learned the hard way on that one years ago.

I didn't think the 200 would throw enough either just from what I was reading. I ordered the 400 kit. I'll use it this weekend and if I can remember through my chemical and alcohol fueled brain, I will report back on it.

Agreed. They are nowhere near as bright as the big ones. I would only say to use them for travel or tight rooms at best.

Thanks so much for all the replies. I have narrowed it down to sony or canon and will go shopping this weekend to make some more decisions
