Hmm.. yeah gotta agree with Jorj, so make sure next game you attend, ya spend too much time behind the Philly netminder other than to insult Brière for making the obvious wrong choice of teams.

Dallas VS Pens for Stanley's Mug.

Mark my words. Dallas is a sleeper this year.

Hey Penny, I know it's hype in Montreal right now, but going to 7 games with a team that they beat in every regular season game this year has got to make you a little worried. Price is a great goalie too, but he's young and can have his confidence shaken as we saw in game 5 where he completely fell apart. Alot of things are going to have to go right for your Habs to go real deep in these playoffs.

You are absolutely right my friend. Thats why i am stressed, but I will keep faith and I know that the habs are better under pressure and the latest changes in the trios works good for them, well at least for now so Ill keep my fingers crossed and see from there!

They swept us in the regular season as well. But it's playoff hockey time and I'm really looking forward to watching my Flyers play in this series. Should be a good one.

Playoffs are a totally new season in hockey therefore no one expected the Habs to win in 4, we all knew that Boston was going to cause trouble just like all other teams they elevated their game. Plus they played inspired hockey in the final stretch to secure a playoff spot and they carried the momentum into the playoffs. As for Price, he looked shaken but nobody in the team gave him a helping hand in games 5 & 6 yet, he came back and closed the door early in game 7 to give the Habs a jump start. I am not worried about him, he has shown a lot of confidence and determination and his talent is unmatched. All the Habs need to do is play their game and keep skating for 60 minutes, Flyers D will have all kind of problems holding the Habs O.

Habs in 6.

no, no, not at all. thats not what i am saying.

what was said is that the pens are good BECAUSE they swept the Sens, which is crap and means nothing.

the pens are good, very good this year. but to say they are good because they beat Ottawa is the bone i pick.

i am really interested in the NY/PIT series. Me thinks it's goooood.

a cursory overview yields that result. but when you look deeper, you begin to see the hidden aspects of the teams that can predict the results.

namely -- NY size, post-season experience, goaltending and controlling, shut-down defensive play makes them favorable winners.
-- Frankly, SJ's offense and goaltending is better than Dallas. Their experience from last round plus JR stepping up in his last year with 19years of experience behind him makes them favorable winners in that series.

If you read the flow of the conversation you'll see that that's not what my main point was at all. I only mentioned the sweep because someone else mentioned how the Rangers "owned" the devs so the Rangers must be supermen or something. My main point was that he completely left the Pens out of his entire post, which to me isn't right.

Nowhere in my post did I say the Pens were this or that because they shut out Ottawa. But the fact that they did not only beat them but utterly obliterate them must say something about them.

And hey, Ottawa may have "sucked" in the last part of the regular season but they did still make the playoffs ahead of how many teams that didn't? Obviously they did something right somewhere along the way. No one is given a playoff birth, you have to earn it.

One thing we should all be able to agree on is that the Rangers - Pens series is going to be a thing of beauty to watch.

Gotta pick somebody, I pick the Pens.

Dallas just ousted the defending cup champions, so pardon me if I remain skeptical of what it is you're saying. I picked the sharks, and stand by that pick, but this is one series where I'm definitely not quite convinced I'm right.

(2) SAN JOSE SHARKS vs. (5) DALLAS STARS

This season's playoffs -

Dallas def. Anaheim Ducks in six games

San Jose def. Calgary Flames in seven games

Head-to-head playoff history -

Dallas is 2-0 with fairly easy wins in 1998 and 2000, limiting San Jose to a total of 19 goals in 11 games.

Season series -

The Stars won 4-3-1, but lost the Game 82 finale at home. Neither team scored more than four goals in one game, neither lost by more than two.

The skinny -

The Sharks can't repeat their slow starts exhibited during the Calgary series ... Dallas goaltender Marty Turco's confidence is riding high after an opening-round win, but the Sharks made it past a huge psychological hump in beating the Flames ... The rivalry between Jeremy Roenick and Mike Modano is perfect for American TV ... Modano is adjusting to a checking role after the Stars picked up centre Brad Richards ... The Stars are expecting defenceman Sergei Zubov to return sometime during the series after sitting out for three months because of a sports hernia ... Special teams stats favour the Stars.

Injuries -

The Stars are missing Zubov and defenceman Philippe Boucher (hip). The Sharks are missing defenceman Brad Norton (back) and could be without defenceman Kyle McLaren for the early games with a groin problem.\ ---\ Top playoff scorers

it's easy to beat an undisciplined team, especially when they sit in the box.

right, the pens shouldnt be left out.

i dont know, ottawa wasnt playing well and was handicapped. so for me, the pens beating the sens shows the pens are a good team, but this is already known. maybe the series showed us that

fluery is ready to live up to all the hype.
the one-two punch of sid and malkin works well.... -very- well.
and that staal on the 3rd line is solid.

what i am saying is that the pens were just not tested enough for me to believe they can hardnose their way through NY, which is what they will have to do.
it will be a slow, grinding series. and if NY can dictate that flow through each game, they will win.

damn, i can smell this atmosphere in Montreal. I really envy you guys there. I hardly can imagine what will happen if Habs will get the Cup.

my fav team is still within lucky eight (not Habs) but I will not mind Montreal take a Cup this year.

it will be a slow, grinding series. and if NY can dictate that flow through each game, they will win.
Let's see what the experts say...

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS vs. NEW YORK RANGERS

This season's playoffs:

Pittsburgh def. Ottawa Senators in four games

New York Rangers def. New Jersey Devils in five games

Head-to-head playoff history:

The Penguins hold a 3-0 lead. They were victorious in 1989, 1992 (a Cup year) and 1996. The Rangers won just three games in those series.

Season series:

The Rangers won five of eight and swept the games at Madison Square Garden. Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby combined for 15 points in the series, with centre Scott Gomez leading the Rangers with seven points.

The skinny:

With left wingers Jarkko Ruutu, Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts, and right winger Georges Laraque, Pittsburgh is more than able to counter the Sean Avery yap factor, but Avery also can burn a team on the scoreboard ... The Rangers must utilize their superiority in goal, but if Crosby finally catches playoff fire, Henrik Lundqvist's bubble will burst ... Former Maple Leafs defenceman Hal Gill traditionally has done a good job shutting down right winger Jaromir Jagr ... Jagr never has played his former team in a playoff game and gets razzed heavily in Mellon Arena. But he kept his suburban Pittsburgh house, and rents it to Penguins right winger Petr Sykora.

Injuries:

Defenceman Mark Eaton (knee) is out for the Penguins, while Roberts (leg/groin) missed the final two games of the Ottawa series and is questionable for Game 1. The Rangers are healthy overall.

I had to make a pick, went with Crosby & co. I think they are going to win in 6, maybe 7. Either way it's going to be a great series.

Stars and Pens look really good but Detroit looks the best so far, they are like playing against a peewee team! But, i still believe in my Habs, they lost game 2 but they totally PWNED the Flyers the whole game.

Can't say that stars are solid. Looks like you are looking at scores only. Dallas is ruling because they don't meet good opponent yet.

Many people actually said the Sharks would be the team to beat this year in the playoffs. I wouldn't say they are a weak team myself, every team remaining had to earn their way to this point.

I meant the Stars are looking great in the series they are currently in. No one said anything about them being better than the Wings or the habs or the Pens etc.

Do you think sharks will be able to get at least one win in this series?

They should be able to, maybe even two. But Dallas is looking very strong, could just as easily be a 4-0 sweep.

In other news so far the Flyers are making the habs look like chumps. lol

Great game though.

Not really, the Habs have out shot and outplayed the Flyers in both game 2 & 3 but couldn't get a win, I am not worried a bit about them they will come back stronger and hungrier and Price will bounce back as always.

Go Habs!

Not really? Were you watching the 2nd period last night at all? They looked like buffoons out there. Even in parts of the 3rd they looked awefully disorganized. Lots of giveaways and bad passes, missed passes, miscommunication etc.

Then at times, like in the early parts of the 1st period and later in the 3rd they were all over the Flyers, but it was too little - too late. Habs need to play that way for the full 60 minutes, and their goaltending needs to be a bit more stable than what Price has been providing.

Having said that I predict they will take game 4 and go back to Montreal with the series tied 2-2.

not really sure they have outplayed the Flyers, I mean you did load up on shots and got two goals on the 5 min major.

will be another great game tomorrow, i just hope Price continues to not catch the puck and we could see the Flyers up 3-1

Playing well for 60 minutes is what they are not doing and i agree, but you can't overlook the shot totals by both teams, montreal outshot the Flyers 34-14 and that says a lot about how well Biron is playing, he is keeping the Flyers in it. I can't count how many posts the Habs hit in game 2 and 3, it's all a matter of time before logic takes place. I am not saying the Habs played best and they sure can skate and synchronize their passes better but with all that bad playing they are still dominating in many aspects of the games.

Look at how they are easily beating the Flyers D. The Habs are faster but they need better Goaltending right now and i am sure Price will bounce back. Markov is playing hurt as mentioned in many articles on RDS and Habs Inside Out, something that is affecting the play of Komisarek who is also not a 100% after his injury late in the season.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, if they can take game 4 and go back to Montreal tied at 2 it will be interesting to see how this series evolves, but hats down for Biron so far, he is really into the zone!

I'll say it again. Dallas Vs Pens for the cup.

Montreal is fucked. Philly will knock them out in 7.

If the habs don't win game 4 they're pretty much done. Heading back to Montreal down 3-1...ug.

Is there anything worse than being eliminated from the playoffs in your home rink in front of your own fans?
