Porn- Ron Jeremy's Argument

As written by Gonzo------>As someone who has had sex with about 4,000 women in an acting career spanning more than 1,700 pornographic films, you could easily joke that Ron Jeremy likes to score.
The Long Island resident nicknamed "The Hedgehog," and author of a book of memoirs subtitled The Hardest (Working) Man in Showbiz, also likes scoring a good, sharp rhetorical point, no more so than in the heat of a good debate about his chosen profession.
"Nobody can defend porn better than me, because I have a teaching license," said Jeremy, referring to his master's degree in special education from Queens College in New York. "Pornography is older than all of us, and it will still be around when we're all dead and buried. We're all voyeuristic by nature. If it goes out of style, fine. I'll take up tennis. But right now people enjoy it."
Jeremy will take on porn critic Michael Leahy in a debate at 7 tonight at Salt Lake Community College's Grand Theatre. Leahy, author of Porn Nation, argues the U.S. pornography industry operates with an attitude similar to that of big tobacco companies. "I'm absolutely certain that Ron and others in the industry know just how addictive their product is, but they're in aggressive denial," he said. "He's basically singing the song that every student wants to hear, when I'm trying to put a warning label on the industry."
Leahy said his use of pornography over 30 years culminated
in an affair with a woman "who was like porn with skin on," ending his 15-year marriage and future business prospects. He has since formed Bravehearts.net, a nonprofit warning people about the long-term consequences of pornography consumption.
Jeremy, who has defended pornography in debates as far afield as England's Oxford Union debating society, said automobile accidents and alcohol abuse pose far greater risks to society than pornography, but that no one argues to ban driving or alcohol based on the reckless actions of some. "I've no problem with any of my debate opponents. It's people like me who are always on attack," Jeremy said. "I make my points, say thank you, then ask, 'Where's the limo?' "

My Reply-

ANYTHING can be addictive. Depends on the person. Some people are addicted to eating, and working out for example. You cant ban people from eating and working out! Basically what I am trying to say is, people have to take responsibility for their own actions. That guy lost his marriage and business because he ALLOWED himself to do so. Then he wants to blame the porn industry.

I just do not understand why people cannot take responsibility for their own actions. It pisses me off.

Because that would mean it was their fault, and they couldn't blame it on something, or someone else. That's precisely why they blame others. If you can pretend to be a victim, it's not you with the problem. After all, it's not that you chose to stick up someone and steal their car; it's society to blame.

Because admitting your wrong means you need to change something, and people by nature don't like to change.

Yup...there's no such thing as porn "addiction" and this fool is just another opportunistic chump exploiting the "victim this victim that" zeitgeist of the moment.

Mr. Jeremy is right on--let the little tool have his pathetic 15 minutes and make a little $ off of him while showing him for the jerk-off that he is in the process.

No offense but arguing porn is not addictive on a porn business forum is useless. In my opinion porn especially shown to young males who are in there formative years skews there mentality on relationships and there thought process about women in general. Porn addicts have a hard time having legit relationships and see woman as objects. This is harmful because young males (12-18 years old) form in their mind how a relationship with the opposite sex should go by inundation of online pornography.

I am sure all you guys are going to flame me because you make money off this industry, but in reality it can affect young male minds and there relationship with the opposite sex for the worse in my opinion.

Opinions are like assholes...where's your proof of porn "addiction"?...or, say, so much as something approximating a coherent argument...?

He's right, you know. I found a porn mag and I started beating off at a young age, and that's why I chewed off the plantiff's face, Judge.

Bravehearts.net what a loser if he was addicted to porn wouldn't he just jerk off to porn and not cheat on his wife

Comparing porn to cigs or drugs or whatever is stupid. Cigarettes contain nicotine which is a DRUG which has been proven to be PHYSICALLY addictive over and over again. When someone who hasn't smoked in awhile goes through withdraws because they drug is leaving thier system. This does NOT happen in porn. Porn is NOT physically addictive. Is is IMPOSSIBLE to get addicted. if you stopped watching porn you will not die which CAN happen top people that try to withdraw from drugs. Hmmmmmmmm. By the way cigs are more addictive than heroin and are still legal.

Even *IF* porn is addictive (not saying it is, albeit)...why kill the messenger?

If they're so intent on helping to resolve 'porn addiction' - let them work with those addicted.

Their attack on the adult entertainment industry based on 'porn addiction' is misguided and ridiculous.

To me, this translates to: "Leahy started hitting the fat ugly daughter of a rich business man in order to promote himself in her father's business, but then fucked a stripper and ruined his chances.

Well who here is suggesting showing porn to 12 year olds? If you expose a 12 year old to rap music calling women bitches and hos and glorifying the objectifaction of them I'm pretty sure that will warp a 12 year old brain about women. So when is the government going to ban rap and force MTV not to show rap videos?

It's a scientific FACT that if one can avoid smoking before the age of 18 you most likely will never smoke. It's also a fact that if a 12 year smokes he will probably be a lifetime smoker whose chances of quitting are very slim. So because of that we should ban smoking for anyone over the age of 18?

I love all this pass the buck mentiality. "I cheated on my wife because of porn. Not because I'm an asshole or I'm insecure or I saw my dad do it to my mom. It's all porn's fault."

It's totally amazing that before the invention of photography in the 1840s no one ever cheated on their spouse. Things rape, prostitution, sex before marriage or child molestation never occurred. It's all because of naked pictures.
