Is There Still Smoking Allowed In Pubs/Clubs In Your Area?

The Smoking bylaw will not allow a smoking room in pubs/clubs and will come into effect in a few days here in Vancouver.I like to smoke an occasional cigar and cigarettes when I'm out drinking and many people do.Did it effect any in your area and has it changed your experience. It's hard enough sometimes getting into some clubs as they wont allow any in/outs for a smoke.I should quit but I won't

Did the clubs slow down or did they allow you to stand in the pissing rain for a smoke?

I like to smoke only when I drink, and I like the no smoking rule because you smoke less and when you finally go outside to have one its that much better

they outlawed smoking in any establishment that allows those under 18

i think that is great, they don't want minors being around smoke, and if you allow only adults it is your choice

I am a smoker, and i respect people that don't by not being rude about my smoke, but I DO NOT think the government should have ANY say about what you can and can't do in your business...ESPECIALLY if you own the fucking building

They closed a cigar bar downtown. Beautiful restored building, owner has to close and lose his investment.

on a more serious note:

I dont drink or smoke, but a owner should have the right to make his place a smoking or non smoking place .

Its human rights ,freedom of choice

If you really wanted to push the issue look at it this way, technology exsists to now make mine shafts safe from toxic gases using air filter eqipment, a law could have been made to make owners meet a certain level of air quality instead of outlawing smoking.

Next Fact; My Mother gave up smoking last year she had her blood toxins monitored and they dropped after she stopped smoking for the first 3 months (well that was expected) then they increased ? why she asked?
the clinic said because of the extra time she had walked around the city was thier best guess (pollution from cars etc) go figure !!

And for all the rest of the non smoking crowd....lets ban alcohol too ? I hate seeing people drink driving and killing people ..I hate to see people vomiting at 2 am in the morning in streets .....ask the local police hours they spend on drink related incidents...

Am I anti drink ? because I dont drink? NO ..so for all those non smokers who bitch...shut the fuck up everyone has a right to choose even though I dont do either of them

that happened in my hometown, lexington, ky...there was a cigar bar that had been there for 20 years, stand alone place that the owner OWNED the building 100%...they outlawed smoking in lexington and he ended up having to close his business because his crowds were totally gone, he ended up filing for bankruptcy and eventually killing himself...it was fucking sad as hell, this all happened slowly over the course of a year or so and the guy was hugely known in the community because his place had been open so long

thats happened to a lot of bar/club owners I know Jace.

The media posts the picture that after a period of lost trade from smoking bans it all picks up and income reaches higher levels..thats bullshit.

Most lose a lot of income and it affects their bottom line bad.

I know of one guy here who has a large chain of bars and he tells me income is down 40 percent, the waiters tell me the people now who come in simply have a drink and go home..so less tips for them, and its a fact that smokers spend more than non smokers in the drink/gambling sectors ,I guess its because they get accustomed to spending money on a smoking habit and think that beer and gambling etc is just another vice.

yup, it sucks

in atlanta the city makes up a few different counties...he in dekalb we have the under 18 law I mentioned above, the county right next to us is gwinette and they completely banned smoking...once they banned smoking completely all the smokers just started driving a few more miles to the county I live in and you started seeing bars close down left and right in gwinette

it SUCKS so bad how much damage it does

bottom line, the building owner should be the ONLY one that decides whether smoking should be allowed or not, if you are a smoker or not you HAVE to agree with that...once we start letting the government tell us what we can and can't do in our own establishments that we OWN, we are starting on a slippery slope towards big brother land

The anti-smoking bylaw has been in effect here in Manitoba for a few years now.

And I support it.

All the bars that were here before are still here and doing just fine. People go outside to smoke but they still drink, the bars still make money. And the rest don't have to go home stinking like an ashtray.

With the exception of a few privately owned clubs and the casinos, it's been smoke free in CT for a few years.

The State is now attempting (with help from the UAW) to ban smoking in the casinos. The casinos spent millions on air filtration and they have non-smoking sections but the issue being addressed is about the employees. Dealers in particular. The tribes are not happy about being dictated to and they're going to attempt to work it out without pissing each other off. It could get very ugly and very expensive if they can't.

As for the ban hurting business, I don't care what the studies say. It's done more than hurt business, it shut down a few. The ones who were able to weather the initial down turn and adjustment period are doing better now. I'm sure the fact that they get the customers from the places that shut down helps. Truth is, the old days where my bar owner buddies enjoyed people 3 deep at the bar and cash registers overflowing with money are gone and they all agree, the smoking ban had something to do with it.

On a final note. I have a friend who is allergic to perfumes and such. She gets so bad she turns red and can't get a breath. She rarely goes out. They're banning that Axe stuff in schools for the same reason. So now what? A fragrance ban? Where will it stop? If we keeping asking the government to take care of us, they will.

Here in Denmark we are now only allowed to smoke in small pubs, nearly everyelse it is forbidden - just ban the cigarettes if they dont want people to smoke instead of making it a "crime" to smoke in public places

not sure if it's just here in NJ but if a business can prove that XX% of it's business comes from the sale of tobacco products other than cigarettes they are exempt, such as a cigar bar.

Quote:
Where is smoking allowed?
Smoking is allowed in private homes, private residences, and private automobiles; hotels, motels or other lodging establishments may permit smoking in up to 20% of guest rooms. Smoking is allowed within the perimeters of casino gaming areas, and casino simulcasting facilities. In addition smoking is allowed in cigar bars or lounges that in calendar year ending December 31, 2004, generated 15% or more of total annual gross income from the sale of tobacco products other than cigarettes; and tobacco retail establishments whose primary activity (51%) is the retail sale of tobacco products and accessories and the sale of other products is incidental.

There is no smoking here in Philly and the bars are still packed for the most part as everyone just goes outside really.

Funny part is that all the weed smokers always had to break outside of the local bar to catch a joint out back, so .. never really bothered us to head outside for a smoke

Shit, in Cali we can barely smoke outside anymore.

No bars, restraunts, and now in my city HB, smoking has been banned west of PCH on the beach and pier.

It cramps your style for a bit, but you get used to it pretty quick.

i think that is great, they don't want minors being around smoke, and if you allow only adults it is your choice

I am a smoker, and i respect people that don't by not being rude about my smoke, but I DO NOT think the government should have ANY say about what you can and can't do in your business...ESPECIALLY if you own the fucking building
You are right

No smoking here in England and I love it. In The Netherlands, where smoking in bars and restaurants will be banned per July 1st, I always had to "plan" what clothes to wear, because they'd stink, even after a few minutes of being inside. The smell of alcohol that scottybuzz is talking about isn't all that bad and is infinitely better than the thick smoke that used to hang around...

The place I frequent has set up a tent on the patio.I think it will work out if they don't get complaints from the hotel right beside the place.probably wont last as you get 100 people outside and extra security has to monitor it.I don't know how the waitress's could handle serving in that smoking room..just like a cloud and it is disgusting

No smoking in bars and restaurants here in Seattle. I heard there was talk of a law against smoking in your car also. I think they said if you had children in the car it would be against the law. I didn't get the whole story but I think they said Cali had a similar law.

Second hand smoke effects everyone around smokers. Fuck that. If you want to get lung cancer, do it in private. I don’t want any part of it.
