Mexico reconquers California? Absolut drinks to that!
The latest advertising campaign in Mexico from Swedish vodka maker Absolut promises to push all the right buttons south of the U.S. border, but it could ruffle a few feathers in El Norte.

Hell, insofar as I'm concerned, Skyy kicks the ass of even a few top shelf vodkas.

Probably the one who's job it was to get more people in Mexico to drink their Vodka.

I'd take Skyy over Gray Goose any day of the week, personally. it's a cleaner vodka... less fusels (which is the entire point of quality vodka).

Still... I'm not much of a vodka fan. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I have better things to adapt my palate to appreciating than a beverage that works on the principal of the more taste it lacks, the better it is.

If its a joke its a bad one

How would Europeans feel about

or maybe

How about an ad like this one

As a Texan this is a little unsettling, it suggest that we stole something from Mexico, when in fact we fought a war over it and won, established a republic and then later decided to join the USA.

This was just dumb on their part when you consider everything that is going on right now with the illegal immigration situation

And what if you will see the Alaska belongs to Russia image - you will kill yourself ?

Take a breath people - it's just an image !!!!!!!!!!!!

And by the way, what the hell did you expect after your lovely GOV supported
separation of historical place of Serbia (Kosovo) to albanians ?
Now you will see more and more images like that , that's your karma now.

In an ABSOLUT World according to Mexico
Posted Friday, April 04, 2008, 5:26:34 PM

The In An Absolut World advertising campaign invites consumers to visualize a world that appeals to them -- one they feel may be more idealized or one that may be a bit "fantastic." As such, the campaign will elicit varying opinions and points of view. We have a variety of executions running in countries worldwide, and each is germane to that country and that population.

This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility. In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues. Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.

As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market. Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.

OK, first, bullshit. You put a flag, person, or word in an ad, you are fucking advocating it/them. So spare me the "we didn't mean the middle finger literally, we meant it as a FIGURATIVE appeal to those who would like to give you the middle finger" spare me the Community College Philosophy 101 bullshit. Anyone smart enough to read the words can recognize them for the farce they are.

Secondly, WTF??? The population of Mexico might wish it owned a big chunk of America the way it did in 1830, so we're going to market to that? How does that justify it? What's next, Absolut Repeal 19th Amendment? Absolut James Earl Ray Had The Right Idea? Absolut Collectivism Is Worth 30 Million Deaths By Starvation? There are fucking idiots with all sorts of retarded political views based on historical precedent. We're supposed to be identifying those non-progressive strands of thought and educating people as to why holding them is fucking stupid, not trying to sell them overpriced vodka they can't afford in the first place.

BUY SVEDKA VODKA!!!

When I owned my last bar I stopped carrying absolut and replaced it with Svedka Vodka. Sveda is also prouduced in Sweeden, tastes better and is half the wholesale price. Not to mention they gave us a ton of advertising support.

Did anyone even consider that in an Absolute world for Mexicans maybe the war would have never happened? Therefore the picture is not them retaking the US, but never losing it?

MEXICO CITY -- The Absolut vodka company apologized Saturday for an ad campaign depicting the southwestern U.S. as part of Mexico amid angry calls for a boycott by U.S. consumers.

The campaign, which promotes ideal scenarios under the slogan "In an Absolut World," showed a 1830s-era map when Mexico included California, Texas and other southwestern states. Mexico still resents losing that territory in the 1848 Mexican-American War and the fight for Texas independence.

Related Stories
- Your chance to vote on the Absolut Mexico ad
- Mexico reconquers California? Absolut drinks to that!

But the ads, which ran only in Mexico and have since ended, came as the United States builds up its border security amid an emotional debate over illegal immigration from their southern neighbor.

More than a dozen calls to boycott Absolut were posted on michellemalkin.com, a Web site operated by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin. The ads sparked heated comment on a half-dozen other Internet sites and blogs.

"In no way was it meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues," Absolut said in a statement left on its consumer inquiry phone line.

Some fringe U.S. groups also claim the land is rightfully part of Mexico, while extreme immigration foes argue parts of the U.S. already are being overtaken by Mexico.

"In an Absolut world, a company that produces vodka fires its entire marketing department in a desperate attempt to win back enraged North American customers after a disastrous ad campaign backfires," a person using the moniker "SalsaNChips" wrote on Malkin's Web site.

A plan for comprehensive immigration reform designed to deal with an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States -- the vast majority from Mexico -- collapsed last summer under the emotional weight of the debate.

Absolut said the ad was designed for a Mexican audience and intended to recall "a time which the population of Mexico might feel was more ideal."

"As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market, and for that we apologize."

Vin & Sprit, Absolut's Sweden-based parent company, will be acquired by French spirit maker Pernod Ricard SA under a deal reached last week.

As a Texan this is a little unsettling, it suggest that we stole something from Mexico, when in fact we fought a war over it and won, established a republic and then later decided to join the USA.

This was just dumb on their part when you consider everything that is going on right now with the illegal immigration situation
I'm sure Mexicans would of prefered to win. I don't really see what is so unsettling. Its just an advertisement. They should make one for native americans. Now that would be funny.

The map may as well be true. Have you been to southern california lately? Look at the cars on the side of the freeway and tell me that the invasion isn't over and Mexico didn't win.
