yeah my Retriever does the same thing, as soon as he sees me putting on my "going out for dinner and drinks and not coming back till late" type of clothes he goes to his bed and makes sighing noises.

But he really turns on the guilt if he sees either me or my gf with suitcases.

He deals with the Sunday go to meetin' clothes fine, although when I return he always acts surprised.

The suitcase is instantaneous moping around. Since I am taking the bike I am using my Swiss Army backpack and he has not seen that brought out very often (comparatively speaking). It did not take him long to figure it out though.

He is now laying on my feet. I guess he has from denial to resignation and acceptance.

sometimes I think the whole thing is just a show put on to make us think they feel bad when we leave....cause I swear there are times when I come back from a full day out and he gives me a look like I disturbed his deep slumber.

If it is an act, he really goes all out.

I can predict exactly what he will do upon my return. He will come up, kong in his mouth, whining and crying about how could I leave him alone for so long. Then he will roll over onto his back so I can rub his tummy.

After a few minutes of that, he has forgotten I was ever gone and it is back to life as usual.

The one I got was a cheap knockoff I guess, because he made short work of it. Gunny thing is, he still saved part of it and we are playing with it now.

goodgirl brought him the real thing when she came out for a visit last year. it is still intact.

The thing is, with him I don't know if he doesn't destroy something because he can't or he just doesn't want to.

For instance, he has a tennis ball that is held together by a thread. It has been that way for months and he loves to chew on it. He just wanted it split I guess.

Other toys he may destroy one version in 5 minutes and the other he treats with kid gloves. He is a weirdo.

I'll take that a step further. My Shepherd can Smell when I awake. I let her sleep next to me, and within seconds before I open my eyes, she is in a sit position 6 inches from my face. (knowing she is going out soon) So many others like acknowledging fear; it's amazing.

Truly well loved/trained dogs do have a 7th sense.

He is my alarm clock. Every morning at 9 I feel a cold nose working its way thru the blanket to my face.

It has to be one of the most disturbing ways to be woken up.
