it's more than just the reason that everything works as well as if you really love windows that much you can run windows on your mac..

but it's a whole step into the better world.. thats like saying a car is a car.. the ferrari dealership here in town you have to pay 25 bucks just to enter the dealership... now in reality a car is a car right? but you wannt roll up in a pinto or a ferrari?

listen I broke my mac book pro myself.. was really stupid.. broke it.. took it in.. they just replaced the computer.. 3000 dollar computer that I stuck a screwdriver through and told them I stuck it through there they looked and replaced it... the whole mac book pro... now... tell me.. would any of the PC companies do that free of charge?

it's a whole new world bro... like I said... leave the ford dealership and enter the lambo's and ferrari's of the world...

Post #14 started the reply of post #15

You should add "Thug use Mac" or "KIMBO's like PCs"?

A month or two ago my biz partner bought a brand new quad core mac pro with 4gb of ram. It got sent back and he went back to pc after less than 3 weeks. He had me work on it for a few days too, thing was crap. Locked up on me 2 or 3 times in less than 3 hours using normal everyday software that is required. Photoshop was no faster than my duo core pc machine. Sorry but there is just no reason other than trying to be in the cool club to switch to mac. There is NOTHING you can do on a mac that I cannot do on a pc.

This is true: It is technically possible to be obnoxious and condescending without a mac. I miss my Mac.

Um, I thought they don't crash, don't mess up, etc, etc (mac boys say so).

So why would they add this function then?

For real PRO application MAC is unmatched in the marketplace. That is NOT a debatable issue. Every high end post house and design house in the world runs macs because of several reasons, not the least of which is the ease of networking and no visuses worms etc. Though purchasing mac is more expensive, these companies and individuals end up saving much more time and money at the end of the day by the elimination of all the problems and frustrations that come with trying to use PC.

PC is great for people who are not using any pro applications (like... final cut, protools etc...) but because of all the crap software made by a million different companies and so on for pc... pc really is best left to grand mothers using AOL and making photo pages of their many cats as the only web building application utilized.

I still use my PC laptop to check my emails on the go or to create a MS WORD doc, but MAC can not be beat for anything serious.

Try Camino. Rendering problems are usually due to strange Aqua/GL overlay problems. I've seen it happen before - but rarely in MacOS in 10.3 and 10.4.

Im dying here. Well lets see Ive done music production since oh 97 or 98.. on a pc. Im an editor, designer, encoder etc. I somehow manage to do all that.... on a PC. Ever hear of Nuendo? Think they used that software on a PC to produce the soundtrack for a little movie called Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Get so tired of the "Mac is the only computer that can be used for media production" bunch of bs.

I'ts funny because I switched to Mac, and generally don't use PC unless there's a game I want to run, but I would have to say my experience is opposite of most people. I find the Mac a horrible machine for creative workflow such as photography and editing. I much prefer working with photos, airbrushing, etc on the PC. However for programming work I love the Mac and don't really like the PC.

You'll never get them to smell reality either, they're like emo's, choosing to suck up to a multinational company that tells them they're "different".. and sucking down the slimy cock of slick marketing.
The single and only reason macs are used in a lot of media houses has nothing to do with any of the stated reasons (surprise surprise) it's just a historical consequence of Apple being the only tool for design and whatnot in the 80's when folks switched over from manual processes. It essentially created a cycle of where people installed macs in the workplace and students were taught on macs... creating a dependency on the platform where professionals know the way around the machine and indoctrinate a new generation. It all started slowly changing in the late 90's though as everything became available on PC and the rise of the internet bringing more PC based web design from smaller agencies and allowing alternative forms of study and learning. It's the opposite of 3d, where PC's (after sillicon graphics)held the ground in the early days and enjoy an on going dominance. (does that mean PC's are superior? of course not.. it's just a quirk of history.)

In '98 there were some places you couldn't go into a print shop and get a poster printed from a PC formatted zip disk, in 2008 some of the biggest and most exciting media agencies are fully PC based. And in others (Saatchi's etc) you can request your own machine be a PC even if the office is still heavily mac based.

You can pretty much tell when one of these guys is bullshitting too when they talk about media agencies and the awesomeness of macs. You instantly know they've never worked in real agency (>100 people) and heard the sounds while you're working away on a large floor as every hour or so someone's mac shit's itself like windchimes in a slight breeze. If you have any concept of reality, this type of experience wears away any magical superiority aura they had, and you realise they're just a machine, just a preference for how you accomplish your work.

Anyways.. There's no changing anyone's mind that it's just a tool and it's the person using it that matters.. you've just got to let them cling onto their false notions, for whatever reason it makes them feel better to be part of a club railing against the "system" by blind adherence to one billion dollar multinational corporation instead of another... One day they might grow out of it.

btw, I'm a published author of an Adobe training book, ex-lecturer at one of the biggest private design colleges in Australia and co-owner of a media agency that works with international advertising agencies and companies.

strange my buddy was one of the lead editors on SAW 1 2 and 3 and when visiting him where "these big production houses" are it was strange to see mac after mac after mac NOT crashing... don't get me wrong you can crash a mac but no where near as much as a PC...

oh not to mention that the only thing I saw them use a PC for during that edit was for adobe AE

so now tell me with endless supply of money to buy all these editing suites why then do they get MAC? if the PC is better?

Any Mac person I know has never done a reformat. They usually ride their precious little Mac for about 4 years, until the fucking wheels fall off and they're way behind the technology curve. Then they go buy another overpriced cute white box that looks nice on their desk and has an OS named after a wild jungle cat.

I just bought a Mac G4 PowerPC but only to create a podcast. Every program that I found for the PC was way to complicated. GarageBand is the best and so easy to use. I just find it amazing that Apple computers cost so much more for a top of the line machine.

dude, you are living in a dream world. i worked for 3 years in a prepress company with 30 macs - and they crash as often as any other computer

i like macs but i chose to work with windows for now. maybe my next laptop will be a mac - who knows.

but at the end every computer is as good as its owner is taking care of it. if you install tons of bullshit (which rarely happens on professionally used computers) every system will crash. if you choose wisely what you install and clean things up from time to time every computer will run fine. my laptop still runs on its first install of XP and crashed maybe 3 times in 2 years due to a bad graphic card driver that i tried to install.

but it always amazes me that some people become like radical muslims defending the quoran when it comes to apple. man, it's just fucking bits and bytes

The chance of someone's computer crashing while you're "visiting" is low regardless of machine mac or pc, hence mentioning working on a large floor full of them for extended periods of time, not 5-10 for a half hour visit. I've worked on both and the crash rate is about the same.

So now tell you? What? AGAIN?

A. Historical platform dependency. Why, when all your senior staff have been trained on macs since the 80's are you going to sweep the rug out from under them and make the whole office PC-based? Not only why, but HOW lol they're probably the ones making the decisions or own the company

Do you understand this concept? I even gave you the contrary argument - why is 3d work mostly done on PC based systems "if mac is better"?
Geddit? PC's aren't better for 3D, they've just had a historical dominance. Macs aren't "better" for print, they've just had historical dominance.

Also you'll notice (actually, you should have noticed) that nowhere did I say "PC's are better".

Hehe, yeah it's like arguing with a christian or scientologist, but I do that too because it's fun and you hope to snap someone out eventually, even if there's next to no hope in getting them to think for themselves. It's just really sad to have this blind adherence to a PRODUCT.. to a brand.

"What kind of dining set defines me as a person?"

companies are changing everyday for the better... if PC were better now a days they would train em on it trust me....

and I did notice that no where you said what was better...

im just up for a debate.. nothing personal if I come off like a dick im a bit sick right now.. not meaning to be a dick...

I know this for a fact... when I got this Macbookpro last aug.. it was my first mac.. ive been on PC's since I started...

well I had the bomb diggity PC and still this Mac Book Pro is faster.. runs programs faster... don't get me wrong I still have hang ups and still have to reboot.... but all and all it is strong and fails less on ME than my PC did.... oh also talk about changing... look what email did to the fax machine... when it's better companies will change when it's not they wont
