Ever shop at Whole Foods Market? Trader Joe's?

The quality of produce at Whole Foods is awesome. Pricey. But awesome.

Anyone else make the switch?

Once you go organic it becomes increasingly hard to get back into conventional. I can see why people get swept up into the whole organic thing, they really have a great marketing angle.

My daughter and a couple g/f's swear by Trader Joe's. I have gone in a couple times to tag along, but it just doesn't do it for me either.

Trader Joe's is definitely cheaper, the produce like apples for instance are smaller. Still, it's bargain organic.

Incidentally Trader Joe's is where I first stumbled upon Stevia a 0 calorie herbal sweetener. Great stuff.

I am not all that interested in whole foods. I already buy a lot from actual butchers, farmers and such without any beyond fucked up markup that whole foods ads.

Then the whole organic thing is lost on me for the most part. I know what I buy is organic unless noted and not squeezed into the organic label since they qualify under government guidelines which are as open as hell and sickening. Hell you still end up with veggies and fruits that are picked out of season or before they are ripe, and it is still "organic".

Whole Foods has theeee most amazing hot soups. I can down several cups of their cream of corn, veggie, potato mash. Their 365 organic brand is also top notch.

Just got back from there, lol. That's where I do 90% of my shopping.
They go well beyond the entire "certified organic" label in ensuring that the food is right.
The meat they have there is amazing, all grain fed (instead of cannibal fed, lol) and free range. They also visit all of their meat suppliers to make certain that the animals are being treated humainly. The buffalo alone is well worth the trip.

Ever notice organic milk seems to have a longer expiration date than conventional? Odd.

I'm a huge cancer phobe but I enjoy cured meats so I'll opt for the nitrite free stuff wherever possible. The organic label on produce doesn't really motivate my purchases, it's just the sheer quality of the stuff they stack on their shelfs.

If I'm eating dairy or animal products, then yes, I try and go organic.

Sometimes I will go to WF for the produce. TJ for frozen foods and snacks. The prices and selection at TJ are just things WF will never have (I got 100's of people hooked on Peppermint Candy Joe Joes over Christmas ). I buy cheeses at both places, wine at TJ. I usually stay away from WF because I can buy fresher stuff cheaper up here. It's great to have orchards, farmer's markets and even an organic beef company up in the hills

I found out a manager at the TJ I frequent has a vacation home up here. I told him I was going to call in my frozen food order to him every Friday for him to bring up - I think he thought I was kidding.........

I get their ads. If I went, it would be for some of their specialty snacks.

You can just add a small pinch of salt and increase the expiration distance of any milk without effecting the taste any. Though a gallon never lasts around here for more than a day or two max.

We shop at both and love 'em. The Trader Joe's brand stuff is great and the names (Trader Mings, Trader Jose's) are funny.

There are 2 local mom & pop places that have incredible produce in the nearby ghetto markets.. I don't know how they do it, the prices are great and the stuff is fresher than anywhere else.

I love Trader Joe's. I don't do my full shopping there but I do go there for cheese (the "fancy" cheeses are a lot cheaper there), snacks, and frozen stuff.

Trader Joe's isn't in the UK..Whole Foods just opened up BUT only has stores in central London. Organic has been all the craze in the UK for years now so they really should spread out.
