I am so torn by this woman... I really can't figure out if she's being genuine or if she's just an attention whore.

One the one hand, she is an inspiration and has done a LOT for Autism Awareness in general. She's made great progress with her own child and has been in the media a lot making sure that people are aware of what's going on.

On the other hand, she's taken it upon herself to start this crusade based on what she thinks and not based on real scientific conclusions. Yes, she has done her homework and gotten a lot of facts and figures but still... there's no "conclusions" in any it. And she gets so worked up that she can't keep her ass in her seat when anyone may not agree with her research.

This march on the whitehouse is both great and also... well, a lot of chest pounding. It's not a "We're going to march" stance, it's a "Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey are leading a march" movement. If this was really about Autism, it wouldn't be so much about her or Jim Carrey. But every time I've heard her mention it, I've her and his name too. She's not united with parents of Autism, she's trying to lead them so she gets the attention.

It's great that she's pushing hard regardless of it all, as it is forcing doctors to take a second, third and fourth look into the vaccines. Which is great for everyone. There's nothing wrong with doing more checking into what is and isn't safe. I just wish she could be pushing for more testing... not pushing for people to believe that she's right when in reality she just simply can't know for sure.

I had no idea that children in the US get that many vaccinations. That's WAY more than we do in Canada. And you know what, our children get Autism too. Other countries have less vaccinations that we do and their children get Autism. Some countries don't immunize their children at all. Some of them have Autism as well.

Does it increase the risk? Perhaps. But it doesn't cause it. And it's for that reason that I hate that she's on such a crusade with this. I can understand her need to find the cause, to find a cure. I feel the same way. But this isn't about me. And it isn't about her.

In the end, her taking it too far will be good for awareness in general and in further studies, but it is still her taking it too far.

Sorry my response ended up being so long. It's a debate topic, one which I debate with myself on!
And I feel strongly about it.

For kids with cancer, I believe. But I'm no authority on charities, much less charities in countries I'm not in.

Having Jenny and Jim taking a lead in trying to battle/find more about Autism is a great thing, with their fame and money they could just focus on their kid alone and not give a flying fuck about everyone else, but NO, instead she decides to get vocal about it and Jim decides to embark on the ship with her.

I say KUDOS to them and give them what they are doing is GREAT as they are getting the attention that is needed for the rest of the world to understand Autism.

How can you call them attention whores???

Stu, I saw her on her media tour of TO, I agree with you as well, she is not a Doctor and she is not a scientist and she is making some bold assumptions and statements based on her own research, which is probabaly med journals and other books.
Jman makes a good point that the more celeb press the better to get the awareness out there.
My brother lost most of his hearing in 1 ear and 1/3 in his other and they think it was due to the measles shot. I got the shot as do a lot of people and I have yet to hear of a similar case personally.

As I said, I also think it's great that they're raising so much awareness and fighting so hard.
But at the same time, she's making a lot of it about her. She's not organizing a march, she's leading a march. It's not a march for Autism, it's "Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey leading a march".

And she's making people believe things that she simply can't know are true. Rather than working with the doctors she's fighting with them because she's making bold statements that she can't back up with any more than "I've talked to other parents who said the same thing."

To repeat myself, "In the end, her taking it too far will be good for awareness in general and in further studies, but it is still her taking it too far."

Yeah, the vaccines definitely aren't as safe as they'd have us believe.
They're injecting us with virus' and diseases and other things so our body can learn to fight it. That's a risky thing to do and I for one would love for us to find another way.

But I'm not a doctor, nor a scientist and I don't know another way. But I do know that they have saved a lot more lives than they've ever taken.

That doesn't justify them or solve any problems but in the end, it's not up to me to decide.

I will be giving my other son his vaccinations. Because I'd rather he be alive than die of something that I could have prevented.

I always turned down any vaccinations that were not forced on my kids. If it was optional I didnt let them do it. I dont trust them enough.

The Virus is dead when they inject it, it's not all that risky really.

No, not that risky, but still risky. There are bad reactions sometimes.
Hense Magnus's post and Jenny McCarthy's crusade.

The more they add to it, the more risky they make it too. Even if only by a minuscule margin, it's still added to.

That's why I'd never tell anyone else what to do. stickyfingerz is right in his choice and I am right in mine. It's a risk either way, you just have to go with the one that you feel is right.

StuartD. I agree with you, and it is a double edged sword with them " Leading " the march. but it may help, and we have to cross our fingers for that.

As for what she is talking about. I agree that she may not know 1/8 of what she is spewing, BUT. In the US the doctors and scientists have been know to make research into a cure for something take a lot longer than it should because in the mean time they are getting paid. NO Doctor in his right mind should EVER say that a good controlled and healthy diet can not help. Because just as you feel that she does not know, neither do they.

At this point I'd like to point out that a healthy, controlled died will be helpful for any child, and all parents should be making this a priority.

If children learn good eating habbits as a child, they'll continue with them as adults. Teach your children about nutrition, feed them well and they'll all be healthier for it.

As part of our getting help for Cameron, we've seen dietitians to help make sure he's getting all he needs. He already makes sure he doesn't get what he doesn't need as he hates junk foods and actually won't even eat meat.
So we get his proteins and minerals into him in other ways and sneak mashed up meat into his other foods.

You guys are right. A good diet is essential to all children.

And pornguy, yeah. It's rough to know how far to trust doctors who think with their wallets.
But this goes further than just the US. Countries all over the world are dealing with Autism and they all have their own vaccination debates.

While their doctors aren't necessarily more trustworthy, it does make me wonder.
They might not cure Autism for the sake of the dollar, but I doubt they'd cause it.

And I never said the doctors know what they're talking about. In fact, the opposite. But Jenny McCarthy is making parents believe what she says. And they're protesting all vaccinations as a result. They're scared.
If these people think that doctors don't know, they shouldn't be so quick to believe that Jenny McCarthy does just because she's a celebrity with an autistic child.
