I don't think it is an age issue. Most of us were young when we got started in this business. I don't think it's a "newbie" issue. We were all new once and this industry does need a flow of new ideas and people. I don't even think it is so much a "maturity" issue. Many of the successful people in this biz lack maturity in some sense of the word. (And that keeps it fun at times)

I think the problem this board has is the number of people here who aren't even in the industry and/or they don't take it seriously and treat it as a business.

I have to agree. You probably recall the days of Content Lotto. One of the best things about it was besides being fun, it targeted webmasters. I know our advertisers appreciated that.

Of course, I agree with Wizzo, BUT...

the problem is that despite what people say, *almost everyone* does at least check out GFY once or twice a day - so it remains the best place to find someone or something quickly.......AND it also remains the place where the contest whores and sig whores and kiddies are alllowed (or encouraged) to come and play.

It's very tough to serve two masters, no matter how many people try to change things....especially if page views are the name of the game.

I really like tony404's idea of having a pay forum for doing REAL business ? no contests, no sig whores, limited bs (as you could never completely eliminate all bs).

I am curious to know how many people would actually put their money where their GFY is and pay for a beneficial forum? 100% - I would. Maybe we should run a contest about what to name the forum (kidding!!).

In all seriousness, I've been running sites since 1995 and firmly agree that old school is the best school. However, there is always room for improvement and growth both in the old and new alike.
