Brock Lesnar's Next Opponent "The Hammer" Mark Coleman

I can't wait to see his next big fight vs an Hall of Famer. If he wins then it'll be a big leap on his UFC career.

Big leap? How's it a big leap? In the last 4 years he's fought:

Fedor Emelianenko - and lost by armbar
Mirko Filipovic - lost by KO
Won - Milco Voorn (Who the fuck is that)
Won - Mauricio Shogun Rua (Shogun fell escaping a takedown and broke his forearm)
Fedor Emellianenko - by the very same armbar again.

Dana White himself was calling Coleman washed up not even a year ago. They brought him in to lose to Brock, who is the new cash cow for the UFC.

If there is a God in heaven, I hope Coleman trains his ass off, learns submission and submission defense. Good luck to the Father of the GnP.

I think he mean Lesners UFC career. Or I hope he is referring to Lesner anyway.

Im torn. I actually want Lesner to do well in MMA. I have a weakness for thick necked roid monster wrestlers. I dont want to see Coleman go out like this. He was looking old when they interviewed in the audience, and if I remember his last few fights correctly, he gassed early. I may be mistaken. Either way I want Coleman to win, but I fear the latter. If he has to go out, I dont want it to be to Lesner.

Oh, I also forgot.

I hope Mark Coleman at least STOPS SMOKING 3 MONTHS OUT FROM HIS FIGHT.

Dana has maybe learned a bit about pushing a guy too early.
Lesnar was really overmatched against Mir and now he gets a guy that if he doesn't beat handily, he really needs to go back to the drawing board before he gets back in the cage.

Follow the Kimbo recipe: Fight a few over-the-hill stiffs with a name people know first and cash in on it. Mir was not a stiff, Coleman is.

Coleman has five months to train, and lets face it those losses were against some of the best opponents in the world , Fedor, CroCop and Shogun! He has his work cut out for him but five months to train, maybe if it he takes it seriously and trains hard he has a chance. If not, I agree it wil be an entertaining fight anyway for Lesnar to show some skills and get a win under his belt.

Even though Coleman might be a fish, he's still a big one. I just hope they both want to come out toe to toe and just go for broke.

What ever happened to andre arlovski...the guy just dropped off the scene. During his last two fights, it looked like he was afraid to hurt his pretty face...

Anyone know when he is fighting again?

A link to the fight was posted here a couple days ago, it wasn't all that exciting a match.

As for Lesner, this is obviously meant to be a giveaway to him. He needs himself a few of these fights though, he just needs to get some ring experience under his belt. If he learns a little control, he is going to dominate the ufc heavyweight division. mark my words. I was impressed by what I saw in his first fight in the ufc. he has got huge power, speed for a big man, impressive wrestling skills, and what appears to be a fucking vicious ground and pound. i was a huge skeptic of his ability coming into this, but he impressed me. Give him time...

Well if you look and see what happened with Mirko Crocop, he was a BEAST in Pride and when he came over to UFC he got his ass kicked. They gave him some tough guys right off the bat and he got owned... I think the approach with Lesnar is a bit better especially when you have some serious dough invested... What happens if Lesnar loses again, will they be bringing in Tank Abbott after that? LOL! ;)

Actuallly, his fight wasn't televised because they couldn't come to agreement on his new contract, as it was his last fight. It's looking like AA is a free agent and might be going to EliteXC, M1, or maybe DreamsFC.

i agree fully with you. give him another handful of fights to get a feel for the ring and put a little experience behind him, keep at it with the training, and this guy is going to DOMINATE the heavyweight division. In one fight I see more potential in him than anyone else in UFC's heavyweight division than I have in a long time. He moves like lightning for a man of his size, and he when he learns how to harness the strength and power and avoid stupid mistakes a little better, he is going to start raining down some major asskickings....

Has the refs not stopped the fight, Mir would have got his ass pummeled right then and there, the fight would not have lasted another 10-15 seconds. And when he did wind up losing, it was only because he made a terrible rookie mistake and stepped into an obvious setup when he stepped over Mir's leg. it wasn't his fault, its just not something he was looking for and he was a little too gung ho to step in and pound him. He won't make that mistake again.

Lesner is still young, and his determination towards his training and becoming a champion in the ufc is evident. I would bet anything that he has the belt within 2 years.

Yeah I'm not agaisn't building up fighters... But Crocop's problem was more mental then anything else. He would have kicked Kongo's ass in K-1 any day... Crocop was a way better kickboxer, and he defintily has more ground game too.

Lots of guys were loosing in pride too :
Rampage got his ass kicked in pride and is now champ
Andersen Silva got his ass kicked in pride and is #1 p4p on most people's list
Big Nog got his ass kicked by Fedor in pride and is now UFC champ

Anyone know when he is fighting again?
The UFC made him fight on the undercard last saturday. He won fairly easily.

His contract with the UFC is over (that's why they made him fight on the undercard)

Serious? Lesner is a decorated wrestler, and he can MOVE that weight and strength around too. Give him some time to train for submission defense and even the most decorated BBJ fighters are going to have their hands full wth this big motherfucker...

Erick Paulson is working with Brock. I have known paulson for 15 years, he is a top mma instructor and BJJ instructor with phenomenal leg locks and submissions.

As for Mark Colmon, Mark Laimon works with him on his submission skills. Mark is a top notch instructor, but Colmon doesn't really like to do what he is told or likes doing drills.

My pick is Brock, but he will get eaten up at a later time by , Gonzaga, Nogara and a few others. If he loses 2 in a row, he will be fighting for WEC..

Lesner comes out swinging and looking to kill from what I've seen of his two mma bouts. He has an explosive style that fans love to see, it makes for an exciting fight when i big strong guy wants to do nothing bu punch your fucking head through the mat, and the wins Lesner does take are going to be consistently exciting, even if he never climbs above the middle ranks. They won't get rid of him, he's a crowd pleaser, even when he loses...

Good point! But so was Tank Abot.. If He looses 3 in a row, he will be done!! Not only with the UFC, but in his head, loosing at this level will fuck u up in the head. After watching last fight, i think Brock got brought on too fast. He needs more tune up fights. Coleman is that, Mir was not!!

Somebody should tell Brock to learn leg submission defense. Sheesh, training with Paulson, the god of leglocks, and then caught with a knee bar.

Coleman has been the same one dimensional fighter for the past 10 years. You would think he and Kevin Randleman would try to learn submissions.

Brock is another archetype of the wrestler. He's got along way before he can take on Gonzaga, Minotauro, etc. Any top level BJJ guy will tap him.

In my opinion Mir got very lucky that he made it to the point where he could slap that kneebar on. I'm not going to judge the refs call to stop the fight, he could have easily let it go, but he didn't. that was his call and it was fair enough. I believe the punches landing on the back of the head were accidentally landed in the midst of a fury, and perhaps another judge on another day would have let them slide. If it were one of those nights, Mir would have got his ass pummeled through the mat right then and there...

I have a lot of faith in Lesner's mma future, but even if he should prove to not rise to the level expected of him, I don't see them doing anything to drop him from the roster. Like I say, he makes for an exciting fight, and he is bringing new fans to mma with his pro wrestling followers. If they have to, they just keep feeding him chumps. I think it's safe to say UFC's heavyweight division is still fairly lackluster, and someone like Lesner in there is going to make for a much more exciting fight, even if he winds up getting tapped out every time...

Any other Ref would have stopped it as well. Those were multiple shots to the back of the head, the rules are there for a reason. Watch the video of the fight again, and you can see that the reason Mir was getting hit in the back of the head was because he was already going for a knee bar.

Agree. Lesnar brought in huge money for the UFC, and will continue to do so. The UFC's HW division isn't as good as it should be, but the saving grace is Minotauro as Champ.

I bet Lesnar vs Coleman will be a HUGE PPV.

I think Brock will do fine, but will never be a champ.. Mark my words, 3 in a row, he will be done!! Mir had his hands full with that guy, but Brock taped to a bitch knee bar! It wasn't even on good, one basic kick to the but with his other leg, he would have been out fast. He was way afraid when the knee bar went on. He is a quick tapper!! His lack of ground knowledge was so apparent!!

We will see...

I'll fully agree with all of that. He really had no clue what to do once that leg was locked in, he didn't even try to do anything about it. It still early, he's still young. he seems to be dedicated in his training, so only time will tell what he does with his potential.

As for the 3 losses in a row, I don't think Dana will allow him to lose 3 in a row. He'll throw Brock roll overs if he has to. He's going to nurture his new little cash cow. it's an investment I'm sure Dana is looking to protect...

That's what has alot of us scratching our heads going, "HUH"? Larson alledgely trained with Paulson for a year or so, AND DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO GET OUT OF KNEE BAR? Paulson is the King of Leglocks.

100% agree.
You forget, Mir is good at BJJ... If you trained with Paulson for a year and if i put the knee bar on you, you will tap!! It takes years to get the intricacies of the ground game down. A month with the best guys in the world wont help you do the moves, it will help you spot the moves. In Brocks case he panicked when he spotted it and tapped!! Why??? Because I bet when Paulson nails him with it, he taps fast or hurts bad!! Conditioned response my friends...lol

And Mir is that, a real deal ground expert who learned stand up Vs. a wrestler or a striker learning submission.

Brock has been cross training how long? year? But got a real training camp the last 4 months before his fight. That doesnt qualify as anything real in my book. When he relocates to Orange county to train full time, i will take him more seriously.

Like Kimbo Slice, he relocated to Ca. to train with Bas full time. He has spent the time to really learn ground and will be good at mma. He is getting brought up the right way. Can he beat any of the top 10? nope!! But he is still learning. 3 years, he will be the real deal!!!

I'd put my money on Brock making it further in the game than Kimbo in a heartbeat...

By all indications, Lesnar has been training for 2 years now. Pat Militech said he was a monster a few years back when he trained at MFS. Could it be bullshit, sure, but every report says he's been training every day for 2 years, with different camps.

You could see the setup a mile away, Mir hooked his left foot behind Lesnars calf, then Mir grabbed Lesnar's ankle, at that point I was on my feet yelling "KNEE BAH!!!" Sorry, a year training with Paulson should have had him ready for it. Liborio taught us a kneebar setup from halfguard with the gi on a friday, the next saturday on open mat, I pulled it off rolling No Gi. WITH the same training partner I drilled with it in GI!!! If a lowly middle aged, chubby blue belt can pull off a technique he learned the night before, a NCAA Wrestling Champ should have no problem doing the same, and more importantly, be able to defend it. Which is not the case with Lesnar.

I really think alot of his "Training" was made up.

I've never even trained in jiu jitsu and i saw that coming way before it happened. At first I was mumbling to myself "don't step into it, don't step into it..." and moments later I'm spilling beer and screaming "NOOOOOO" at the top of my lungs at the TV. He couldn't have made what he was going for more obvious if he had ASKED Lesner to step into it. I think you chalk part of it up to lack of ring experience. He was caught up in the moment, and threw caution to the wind. All he had on his mind was jumping in there and pounding Mir into the mat again and it cost him...

Sure, I agree there was some of that, call it blood lust. But on the same token, this isn't some Noob, this is a NCAA Champion, who has been in front of a big crowd, competing for all the marbles. Lesnar should have known better, been trained better, and definately better prepared for the adrenal dump.

I hope he does better with Coleman. Coleman is good for the first round, after that he's gassed. Maybe we'll see Lesnar pull off a submission.

I know what you are talking about. Knowing BJJ is one thing, making it second nature is a whole other subject Brock cant touch!! Take downs is his expertise not submisions and playing guard. I am a fucking stud on the ground and im really good at wrestling take downs, but a half ass college wrestler will take me down almost at will!! I can submit them just as fast, but i still will get dropped.. I have traded submissions for take downs so many times. The art of the take down is so technical and complex it took me 5 years of working it after BJJ class and weekends with wrestlers. About 12 hours a week for 5 years before i got really good and was using it at a competitive level. (it was competing at the Pam-Am level for BJJ and college wrestling was my edge over my Brazilian competitors)..

And you are going to convince me that this guy is going to be good at submissions, in one year??? and if so what submissions? you and i know there are a stupid amount of submissions out there!! And what about sweeps and reverseus? Transitions? You cant learn and absorb more than 3 moves in a class...

Keep in mind, MMA covers so much more than just BJJ.. how much time spent on striking? something he never did before. Kicking? Cage control? Wrestling, i will give him..lol

Doing it with your training partner, in the studio is one thing, doing it to someone that is trying to do it to you is another story!!

I like Brock and would like to see him do good, but he is in to deep too fast. I have seen it happen a million times. Keep in mind Brock had a very serious scared look on his face when he tapped! The "I do not now what to do" look on his face. Brocks confidence is damaged big time..

As for Kimbo Slice i know him and his camp, he is getting brought up right. he has been training hard MMA for 3+ years. 3 more years we will see. His fights are chosen carefully. Kimbos confidence increases with every fight.

No disrespect, i love your posts and threads. It brings me back to the old school BJJ boards i used to post on... Just sharing my opinion with some of my insight from my personal experience.

Yep, Dana has said repeatedly that the big fights are given to the guys that put on a show just as much as win. I doubt Brock will ever have a boring fight with his style and if he gets some legit BJJ experience, everyone in the heavyweight division should watch out.

Trust me, I know. My takedowns are atrocious.

Couple of factors to weigh in. He's training with Eric Paulson, the Father of Leglocks. That's the point I'm trying to make. It's been said all over the place, he's a monster on the mats, and after over a year traiing with Paulson, he can't do a simple defend? Free foot on the ass, push. The kneebar was really low, and he could have easily gotten out. I doubt he's trained, and the talk was bullshit. If that is the case, Lesnar isn't going very far, and is another case of Mark Coleman. Takedown, and ground and pound guy.

I agree, the skillsets are way more than just BJJ. However, again, 2 years of training by Lesnar. Inasmuch of a physical specimen he is, and former champion, 2 years is a long enough time to learn his game. Let's face it, Lesnar is cut from the same cloth as Randleman and Coleman. Take them down, ground and pound. One dimensional.

Oh I know. I watch my first fight to remind myself of it all the time.

That's why Kimbo will be a bigger draw in the future than Lesnar. Kimbo is not only learning the game, he's using it.

Valeu Dave, it's always good to have a vet and a BJJ Black Belt to bounce thoughts with!

Anthony, are you going to the AZ. show?? I will be there. A couple of drinks and i got stories for you..lol. I like to have fun and take everything in life with humility and a smile. (not XXXjay style fun) lol

The funny thing is you probably know more than me about MMA. The things that you and others tapped on were things, i know 1st hand. lol

As far as Brock is concerned, im going to phone Paulson and ask his hounest opinion on the Brock situation. He is a strait up guy about what is what.

Brock is awesome piece of raw material to start with, but is he trainable? I will find out. Im curious now..lol

My friend Karo Perisian has a tough fight coming up. If he wins this, he is in line to fight for the title. It will be Fitch or Karo or they might fight each other to be in the top slot.
