Consant State of Boredom

Yea ever feel like you are in a constant state of boredom when working in this biz? I never thought I'd say it, but working from home is getting pretty damn boring.

I go out of course, but just the typical nature of this biz, the simple repetitiveness of it, almost sucks the ambition right out of yea. I mean don't get me wrong I get stuff done, but it's kinda like there is never a change or anything different in the day to day work.

I'm starting a new service for webmasters and I think it's going to be pretty damn awesome, but it's still the same sitting in front of the PC. So I'm trying to figure out something to change things up..Anyone else get that problem if so what do you do?

I often console myself with the fact that sitting in front of a computer for 18 hours a day is fucking tedious. A radio in the background, or DVD playing for a minor distraction helps.

I think its the working from home part, not the actual biz. Many people find working at home has many benefits but lack of interaction from a working office with others can be a real problem.

Yea it's not just the adult biz.. Hell I want to do some mainstream stuff too, but I know it would be more of the same. It's just on the work side of things nothing ever changes. I took over a month off the end of last year it helped but still you come back and it's the same thing over and over and over.

It almost makes me want to push ahead and just get an office with a few employees or something. Just to make things more of a challenge and something different to do.

I hit that wall last year, and have pretty much done fuck all in the last 12 months.

It has taken 5 years to get to that stage. There have been many threads around here with the same question - I think the bulk of the advice circles around getting out more, do more exercise, go out and meet lots of people etc. I've turned into more or less a social recluse, as have several other webmasters I work with around the world who are in the same boat.

Infact I wouldn't mind some advice on this myself. Driving me ferging nuts, especially with a one year old nipper around my feet. I'm thinking of eating her.

there are definitely many disadvantages of working alone on the PC from your own home

the lack of every-day interactions with real-life people is probably the biggest for me
I really miss the years of school or University, where you were forced to interact daily with the same people, whether you liked them or not

I should finally get a part-time job or engage im more hobbies this year

I get cabin fever really bad. I try and go outside for a walk or to the gym t break my day up. My biggest problem is I stay in front of the pc WAY to long. Once I get into a project I get zoned out on it. I have started taking a lunch at the same time everyday and watching a good movie at night with the pc off..

That's exactly what I was going to suggest.

If you're bored in everything you do, it's time to change things up, and that seems a logical next step...

Or at least hiring one guy to do the stuff that bores you while you concentrate on other things.

Working at home or at an office, its almost always still being a computer. Its just the nature of the workplace today. Unless you want to be a construction worker, doctor or something like that.

I worked from home for a couple years and the novelty wore off fast. I really enjoy having an office to go to every day and people in my industry with similar interests to interact with.

I suggest stepping it up a notch expanding your business to an outside office with an employee or two.

If you are bored you must not be busting your ass like you used to

It will come with more stress but most likely more income also.

You will definitely be less bored.

M.

I actually thought of selling all my website stuff and jumping into the content biz at one point. Then I realized I'd need to learn to shoot content first.

The problem is I get bored pretty easy. I've had several small businesses in the past just because of this reason piror to getting in adult. The problem is I want to do too many things I think.

But I like to build "real" things. Hell I was thinking of building airplanes not so long ago.. ( yes I know, I'm a little deranged in my thoughts and ideas.. )

It does get a little boring and repetitive. I dont subscribe to the whole no TV in the office because it doesnt really distract me. A dose of cable and DVDs makes the office seem much less quiet.

If it gets too boring this is one of the best occupations to just up and leave and do something non-work related for a few hours.

If I ever feel resentful about the only real downside, solitude, I can always console myself by thinking how many times I used to sit in some office clock watching the last few hours or dreading the boring 3 hour meeting, retarded appraisals, unachievable targets and often mind boggling office politics bullshit.

Maybe im not bored enough yet lol
