Final Farewell to Netscape Navigator ...
A web browser that gave many people their first experience of the web is set to disappear. Netscape Navigator, now owned by AOL, will no longer be supported after 1 March 2008, the company has said. In the mid-1990s, as the commercial web began to take off, the browser was used by more than 90% of people online. Its market share has since slipped to just 0.6% as other browsers such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox have eroded its user base. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7270583.stm

				 | My first browser was NCSA Mosaic. I almost died and went to heaven when I downloaded Netscape 1.0. And not to be dramatic, but after seeing a few sites in 1.0 I made a career change, quit school and became a web dude. |

				 | They cut their own throat when they set it up so you had to log into the browser. That was the last time I ever used it what ever version that was. It took everything over like a virus too.. as a side not I can't believe they didn't just sell it.

				 | You can always pretend that Netscape lives on in RSS; they set the format for RSS 0.91, and RSS will probably live on for a few more years along with Firefox and other tools based on Gecko.

				 | Netscape Navigator is the most important product ever created for the internet so far today. Essentially we view the web the way we do because of them. |

				 | The stats are a little skewed though if you keep in mind that Firefox is basically the next generation of netscape... Netscape has been funding the Mozilla project since it began, and pay several firefox developers their full time salaries... |
